We have to look at the whole picture. Manufacturers and dealers do what's best for them while still maintaining a customer base. If you don't do that you go out of business. Sadly this has happened in the automotive industry, but our dysfunctional government has bailed these particular companies out.

Take ford as an example. The Bronco II was a dangerous vehicle which was extremely rollover prone. Ford knew from statistics how many people would die, how many customers they would lose and what it would cost them in lawsuits. Ford deemed they would still come out ahead instead of redesigning the vehicle. With zero regard for human life.

So if anyone thinks any manufacturer is on their side, we'll good luck with that. It's not about being pessimistic it's about protecting yourself and loved ones. Not one single mechanic including myself recommends 10,000 mile oil changes. Not one. Manufacturers want cars to only last a certain amount of time, they want engines to fail just outside of the warranty period, so they can tell you, this thing shot time for a new vehicle.

Funny, I got this Tacoma after my Pilot blew the transmission. I followed the manufacturers OCI and did all the maintenance at the dealership, gave me no struggles or anything. Replaced it and traded it in the next day for this truck. I guess one could say I have been down this EXACT road before. Don't be an asshole to the people at the dealership (you may struggle with this step) and they will treat you fine!

Edit: I'm also not sure how a 10K mile OCI is a matter of the safety of my family

I have lost count of the number of threads that kicked off an oil debate.

    ...

I have never seen someone kick off an oil debate whose post count is higher than the oil change interval they are debating about.

Nope. Honda automatic Transmissions leave a lot to be desired they always have. The J35Z4 is a wonderful engine, just make sure to put in a new timing belt at 100k

From my experience, my Tacoma transmission does too, but I love the reliability and capability. How come this wouldn't apply to Toyota as well, then?

How do you do the filter without the oil?

I just did this on the Mazda yesterday after figuring out that my new filter was defective. Its much more work to thoroughly clean your collection bucket, collect the oil, transfer it to your pouring device, and pour it back in than it would be to just toss and replace.

Heck, I might just put it on the stands for a third time and replace everything for the paranoia of it.

Well it does mean that everyone has had 10,000 opportunities to see that I am indeed a derailing spew-shit, so there is merit in the system.

The transmission is good, the tuning is bad and and the torque converters can shudder with the improper amount of fluid. The Aisin units are far better than the in-house built Honda Transmissions.

Years ago I lost an engine in an F150 with just under warranty limit on mileage. Had like 35,800 on 36,000 mile warranty. Called 1-800-FORD or whatever to get roadside/tow to dealer. Had to wait 2 or 3 hours for tow. Next day the dealer calls and says the engine is blown and will not be covered by warranty. I ask why, and he says that it didn't have oil in it? I ask him what he thinks I did while I waited for the tow? Yes, checked the oil. Calls back in 15 minutes and says it will be covered and that Ford is sending a complete engine and wants this one back to determine cause.

    I like your style. Lol

I know, I'm new and you all have to feel new people out, I get it, it's all good. I wouldn't be here if it didn't want to learn and to share. It just takes some time to get used to people's flow, and it's difficult understanding people in written text.
