Thanks for the details. Bit of conundrum. As a regular daily driver, 5+ hr summer road tripper and FSR enthusiast I don't want a blow out either. But the added security of not having a blow out is reassuring those times I'm off road. I'm looking at maybe going deeper off road in the future so I'm strategizing now. Bit of a balancing act in terms of performance off road and daily driving to work which is 90% of my time. I'm hoping in retirement to spend more time off road. Some on here swear by E-load and some regret the decision.

Thanks for your thoughts too. I like the look of the KO 2's. However, one thing I was concerned about was wet weather traction. Here in the PNW rain is an almost daily issue in the Fall/Winter. Many have expressed concerns with KO's wet weather traction performance. Fabulous off road but concerning in wet weather on asphalt. So, I went with Toyo Open Country A/T III's in SL instead. They do make an E-rated version. Weight adds up though. Also, was thinking of going with a skinny E-rated Toyo OC A/T III tire 255/80/R17.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
With blowouts never any guarantee no matter what tire, but from my experience with this truck so far (140+ offroad trips) they have done well. I am sure there are several other E rated tires that would do well. The first set did well, so I got a second set. The first only lasted 70K km. They actually had a lot of tread left, but from the beating offroad they had become very noisy to the point I could not take it anymore. The wear was perfectly even, but they were just very noisy. I am hammering the shit out of them on brutal washboard and deep pothole roads, and then the 4x4 trails so it is not surprising.

I had them dismounted and took them to a used tire store here and got $320 cash. Not too bad.

So I put a second set on, and I expect based on my offroad driving they will start getting noisy too around 60K km.

When new they are pretty quiet. My new set have about 30K km on them and still quiet on pavement.

I could go for a different brand of tire, but since they have not failed offroad I will stick with them for now.

By the way, they are no good in city snow driving. Don’t use them for that if you buy a set. In Kelowna winters have been pretty heavy the last 8 years. A lot of ice/snow on the roads. I bought snow tires and put them on plain rims and they easily beat the KO2 in snow.

    Nice!

I've been to Grand county/Moab 6 or 7 times over the years (all EJSs) and there SO many areas and trials to explore, you could easily live there and not explore every one.

I thought we had a long drive to Moab at 900 miles.......

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I've heard that about these tires as well, but have ye to experience it. I have an MT Sport and have only spun one tire once leaving a stop at a left turn, and it was me giving it a little too much gas peddle. We have recently had about 3 inches rain to break out drought restrictions here (Northern Virginia). I prefer the truck to my commuter in heavier rains and knowing I'll have ponding. The tires clear water well. When I hear people complaining about something, I always take it with a grain of salt and look for reviews.

Skinnies: Everyone here loves them. I'm running 265/70/17 on a 9" wide rim. Last time out, we had four trucks, three with lockers and my sport. Two on skinnies. Only two trucks made it up the hill without a winch. They were not the trucks with skinnies. My no locker Sport was last in line and the hill was pretty chewed up. Made it on the second try. My opinion, for what is worth, was the aired down wide tires I have on the truck. I love the look and the way these just chew up the trail. And I have blown two sidewalls on separate trips before I put these on. The downside is the gas mileage. I'm lucky to see 16.5-17 at 60-65 mph. Faster than that I just don't look. Commuter car gets 45-50. No complaints either way.

Most direct route to Moab from the driveway is 1,940 miles. We've been close twice but lacked time with other plans already made. One of these days...
