So I lifted my 2023 Tacoma trd sport with 2k miles on it with the Westcott Designs preloaded collar lift. It leveled it out with 2.75" in the front and 1" in the rear. I put 285's falcons on with fuel wheels at the same time. I absolutely love the look and ride with no rubbing at all. Only issue is from the day it was installed I get this annoying vibration in the steering wheel when I am coming to a stop starting at around 20mph down to a complete stop. I am also getting some mild vibration around 50mph. Is this the needle bearing issue in the front diff that needs to get replaced with a bushing or something else?
    Thanks

Was it necessary that a lift was needed? Usually when doing lifts you'll need to accept that one thing leads to another. Cost of looking cool as a buddy use to say on his tacoma....in the end, it wasn't worth it.

The good news is this is a VERY well known problem (vibration when slowing down between 30 and 10mph) with many threads and there is a TSB to fix it involving a steering wheel damper (a Band-Aid for the symptom) and stronger Off Road leaf springs (for a fix) to stop the axle wrap that pulls the 2 part driveshaft out of angular tolerance. It applies to all but Off Road (see tsb for details), which already has the stronger springs. Rather than fix the problem for newer years , Toyota just updates the tsb to apply to newer years. It takes them a long time to update the tsb. This is the history. Is it different for 2022,2023??? Knowledgeable dealer might help to determine if you have the stronger springs already.
The bad news is Toyota wont touch it if you lifted it (see tsb), which likely made the already existing problem worse. Though, maybe it just created the problem, taking the driveshaft too far out of spec. If that is the case, you might try adjusting the angles with things like carrier bearing shims, etc.

If you remove the lift, you might have success getting them to do the tsb under warranty, assuming the vibration remains. Having the stronger springs is what you want. It can only help your lift.

i don't know if this is the latest incarnation of the tsb, but it is a good place to start looking: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10187246-9999.pdf

ps. i had this done to my non-lifted 2018 SR5 and it totally fixed the problem.
    pps. welcome.

Tacoma sits high enough off the ground and has a perfect stance in my opinion. No way I’d tamper with my factory suspension

I’d say get off your high horses, but your horses are probably stock height.

It seems like these “I’ve lifted my brand new truck and now have vibrations” threads are an almost weekly occurrence.

First, please don’t blame the truck or where it was assembled. You bought and installed the lift and tires, not Toyota, so fixing what you broke is on you. (This may not apply to you at all, but others in the past have ranted along this theme and it gets annoying.)

Second, it sounds like you changed both the front and rear geometry, and got new wheels and tires, so there are a lot of variables going on.

The rule of thumb I’ve been told is “vibration felt in the steering wheel is from he front end” and “vibration felt in the floor or seat is from the rear end”. Vibration that is speed related (gets more noticeable as you go faster) is likely imbalance.

The common things people suggest are the EGS bushing to replace the needle bearing and a carrier bearing shim / drop to help with the rear driveshaft angles.

I have no idea if these will help your particular situation, but these are the common suggestions. The reality is, vehicles are a bit odd when it comes to lifts. Some are really sensitive to even minor lifts and some aren’t. Tolerance stacking means two identical Tacomas might react differently to the same exact lift.

If you aren’t experienced with this stuff, I would definitely recommend working with an independent shop experienced with lifted trucks rather than just throwing parts at it. I don’t think the dealer is going to be much help because of the aftermarket components.

Obviously, make sure the tires are well balanced and the truck is aligned, but I doubt either of those is causing vibrations.

Put it in 4x4h - does it go away? If yes then needle bearing. Its an easy fix to have a shop do it.

I did the TRD lift from Toyota before driving one block and I have this So if Toyota is selling a lift how do you say lifting a Tacoma is a bad decision? Clearly Toyota wanted to capitalize on the market. I’m living with the mild condition for now but advised my dealer. If you don’t want to lift your truck, great just don’t get the criticism of those who did and useless posts here in this thread. Have nothing to offer the OP ? Bye

It’s very hard to trouble shoot your issue based on your description, but I’m going to guess you are feeling the new tires. If you want a better guess, you need to include more information in your question.

I would also lean toward the needle bearing. Though under torqued bolts among many other things can cause vibes. I still have to change mine to the ECGS clamshell bushing. many threads on it.

Not saying bad things don't happen but going off my experience, alone, not once in 20 yrs have I needed to use the warranty. IMO after the truck leaves the lot the dealer has to keep making money off that truck somehow by requiring overpriced maintenance schedules in order to keep that warranty.

FWIW, if I purchased the Toyota lift, and had Toyota install it, I would make Toyota correct any vibrations that occurred because of the lift.

This, to me, is the justification for paying a premium for the Toyota kit and installation.

When you go with an aftermarket kit, you are on your own with making corrections or addressing issues. This is why I recommend (if doing it yourself) changing only one thing at a time, so it is easier to troubleshoot.

When you do everything all at once (front lift, rear lift, new wheels and tires) troubleshooting becomes a bit more challenging.

This is crazy. I don't remember asking in my post for anyone's opinion on whether or not you think it's a good idea to lift a truck. And I am definitely not complaining about lifing mine. I simply asked a question to see if any other member experienced the same issue and came up with a resolution. And I'm not asking the dealership to pay to fix it. I love the truck and would do it again. I can live with it but was wondering if anyone knew a fix that would only cost a few hundred dollars. Like someone said Toyota sells and installs a lift so for those of you that want to keep your trucks stock height and think it's plenty high enough...that's your choice. Just keep your complaining to yourselves.
THANK YOU to the members that gave me some helpful advice

If you can, try to ignore the peanut gallery and focus on the help. This forum is a massive wealth of knowledge and it's worth sticking around if you can wade through the nonsense.

I went through a similar situation. I added a 2" lift from Accutune with new leafs, UCA, front coilovers, and rear shocks. Lift ended up being more like a 2.5" when unloaded. Anyway I had a similar vibration from about 10mph-40mph no matter on brake or throttle (have the 6MT) clutch in or out. I made shims for my rear axle (about 2.5°) and added 1/4" carrier bearing spacers and fixed all my vibrations and is as smooth as it was when stock. Not going to guarantee that your problem but it sounds similar to what I went through.
    Hope you figure it out!

Not asking if it's a good idea for lift, but do you have a valid reason that you need one like planing on some serious off-roading. If so, just plan on them not being perfect. Seems you can't give an honest opinion on this without it being a clown show, but I guess thats how this place is.

Could be wheels are out of balance or maybe you might have lost a wheel weight.

actually if you lift under 3 inches it does not void the warranty i checked that out when i lifted my 2015 before i lifted it when i bought it.
