Hey everyone first post here, I know there’s a bunch of threads on the 255/85r16 tires but looking for mostly 0 offset and 4.5 back spacing. I may be fried from just trying to look at so many truck things in the past 48 hours or so, but didn’t come to many results. Can anyone with these specs post pics and let me know of any rubbing issues or anything I need to be aware of? Also preferred tire brands with that size that’s lower on weight or better with fuel mileage as it’s still a daily, just looking to get into weekend warrior mode. looking for any reviews I can get. Thank you.

I can’t speak to the backspacing but I can tell you that everything in that size is a mud terrain except for the St Maxx, so that would be your best bet in terms of mileage and daily driver friendliness.

Back when I was on 255 85 r16 cooper st maxx
With SCS F5 wheels 16x8 0 offset 4.5 back space. I trimmed nothing and would occasionally rub on the inner plastic when turning and going over bumps at the same time.

that’s an awesome looking truck, love the color. Do you think you’d be able to make away with mudflaps at all? How’s fuel mileage? I’ve tried lightly looking up more on the st maxx and didn’t really hear much about fuel mileage am I safe to assume it’s going to be the best considering all others are e rated?

Maybe if you went with slimmer after market mud flap options it might work. I never had mud flaps though so not 100% sure. Also MPGs never mattered to me so I never calculated it. Sorry I can’t be of more help there! The ST maxx were also E rated but the only non mud tire option so it was basically my only choice since I have to drive in snow during winter. Around the 25k mile mark they started wearing unevenly and road noise increased. Other than that I did like how they performed, including in snow. I’ve since added a lot more to the truck and have 35s (D load, won’t go E again). If I knew then what I know now, I would have gone straight to 35s.

I have 255 80 17 on 17x8.5 0 offset wheels and for me it was 100% necessary to do a pinch weld fold and trim plastic. I also did slightly kiss the cab mount so I just did one.

This is with cycling the suspension and steering fully.

Is this with stock suspension? Any lift? I want to do 6112/5160 suspension all the way up if the tires will fit good if not then it will be 265 with the 6112 dropped down a clip to bring it to 1.5

Hey OP like you my eyeballs have turned to hot slime over the past week of reading and focusing on numbers.

A lift that retains the stock suspension geometry is going to locate your wheel in the same place at full compression as the stock suspension at full compression. If you need to keep the big tire off metal you have to move the metal or limit the up travel of your suspension setup.

note. This is my understanding of 4runner I haven't driven or possessed a tacoma ever

So suspension “lift” does not clear tires if that’s why you’re wondering.

That previous pic was taken with the front coil over removed and the suspension jacked up to full bump. I have 2015 trd pro suspension so that’s basically a 6112 set up for 1” of lift over stock.

this pic is at ride height with no added weight
