So happy to be back with Toyota. Just retire from working in a GM plant in the medical dept. I wasn't employed by GM I was employed as a contractor. I had to sell my 2007 in perfect condition Tundra (garage kept, 28,000 miles, showroom condition) because they wouldn't let me park on campus. Oh I hated to part with my Tundra. So I traded for a UAW truck. A couple of weeks after I retired I bought me a 2021 Tacoma TRD X series off road with 33,000 miles on it. It is in new condition as well. I have cancer and my new truck will last longer than me. I absolutely love my new truck. I have some questions though.I only use Shell gasoline in my vehicles. I always for years have only used 93 octane. Is that OK to use in my Tacoma? Next question is I only buy vehicles from a large dealer here where I live. Its not a Toyota dealer, Should I only use a Toyota dealer for servicing my Tacoma? Thanks for letting me in the group.

As for the question on Shell gasoline. 93 isn’t required for these trucks. But I know the premium fuel is where they put the additives and detergents. Your call on that aspect. Toyota dealerships aren’t (IMO) any better than any other shop that you know and trust.

Unless you super charge your engine you don’t need anything more than regular 87 octane. I also like to only stick to shell or chevron. From what I understand a rich 91 or 93 octane gas will allow residue to buildup in the engine.

You don’t need to go to a Toyota dealer for service, just take it to a reputable mechanic and they should be fine. Worst case have the dealer diagnose issues but have the service done somewhere you trust the mechanic. I wish it wasn’t true but most dealers I interact with recommended service prematurely which imo is shady.
