2020 TRD off-road. I have a 3TPAM on the way. Has anyone moved the stock USB data port up to the 3tpam? I would like to so when I mount my phone I can use a short cord and not have it dangling down or wrapped around the dash.

Interesting. I just installed the flush mount usb power thing 3TPAM (newer one?) and that only had positive and negative leads that you can vampire into just about any source of power. That said— unless you crack it open to see what it has I don’t think it has any data transmission/communication lines. You would need a different hub in the 3TPAM.

If you did find a suitable replacement you can splice into the wires going into the stock USB port into the hub you have. Another easier method would be to plug in a usb extension cable and tuck the whole stock usb and audio switch behind the bezel and you just freed up a switch location.

I'm kind of thinking that route right now. Thinking about just stashing the stock USB data port inside the dash and running the USB cable inside the dash. Cut a little slot somewhere in/under the 3tpam for the cable to come put and plug into the phone. Splice the 3tpam USB with the cigarette lighter and put a regular powered USB port where the stock data was. Make sense? Think of a better way? I really hate cables dangling around or ran and stuck to dash visible.

If only Android auto would work wirelessly with the stock head unit. Sigh.

If you have the means, and you want it to be real nice. You could make an adapter plate (wood, plastic (3dprint), duct tape, Milled piece) that connects and fastens to the 3TPAM opening for the USB slots. This could connect to a usb extension cable— like one of these

And then bam tuck behind the bezel and radio.

I’ve also been trying to figure this out. I was thinking about just getting one of those wireless carplay adapters and be done with it. Not sure how reliable they are, but it resolves the wiring/mounting issue to the tpam. For a cleaner look, perhaps the doggle could be mounted behind the dash or relocate the media port to the center console/glovebox.

I have been thinking of the reroute up to the 3tpam also, just need to find the right usb plug to cut int and install on the 3tpam, Al Hogg, where did you see the one you posted that pic of?

Mine is still in shipment, so I don’t have it in my hands yet, but I am researching this very thing. For me, just having a non-data usb charge port in the thing is of limited utility. Why would I do that when I still have to run a cord down the dash for CarPlay since, [rant] car manufacturers, and apple who I am told has a stake in this decision seem to refuse to put wireless freaking CarPlay in these cars, which is bullshit [\rant]. so, I’ve been researching different ways to adapt this. There are many surface mount USB extension options, some of which I think will pop straight into the square hole in the unit the other option being leave that charge block out of there and surface mount, something in its place, which actually extends the USB.

Here are a couple options I have found so far.. a mix of surface mount and ports that would have to be adapted in someway with a plate, or some such:

So far, the reading I have done all says that wireless CarPlay adapters are laggy and have a delay in reaction, and that would make me crazier than I am already, so that’s not really an option for me.
