    Hey there,

I have a 2007 DCLB in Indigo Ink Pearl (dark blue) and the clear has been failing all along my passenger side as well as the driver side bed panel. The carfax showed a minor collision at some point so I’m assuming this was just a budget paint job that’s finally failing. A couple years ago I put a few coats of 2K aerosol clear as a bandaid but it’s about time for a respray.

I’m hoping for some advice. If I’m going to re-clear more than half the truck, I figured I may as well do the whole truck. Additionally, the passenger side has several spots of flaking clear and dead paint, which will require some new base. I’ve tossed around the idea of making a color change, but I’m interested in a non-metallic dark blue so not a drastic change. If the jambs are in good condition, would it be weird to just spray this new color base on the exterior only and leave the jambs the OEM color?

Would a 4:1 gallon each of base and clear be enough for the entire exterior of the truck if not spraying the jambs/underside of hood?

    I appreciate any advice.

un educated opinion but if youre planning on doing this work and spending the money, for something in my mind that might not come out how you want it, wouldnt it make more sense to go the wrapping or dip route?

I did look into wrapping, but it seems like it’ll be way more expensive, even DIY. Granted I’ve never sprayed a car, but I have years of experience in furniture finishing so I’m way more confident spraying than wrapping.

    Nice! I want darker though.

Currently looking for something similar to Ford’s old Washington Blue
