Had a shower thought this morning, what happened to rollbars?

Back in my younger days, any 4x4 truck worth its salt had a bed mounted rollbar. For some reason it just occurred to me this morning that you never see them on modern trucks anymore. I am guessing structural rigidity in newer trucks is better maybe? Or maybe they didn't add any rollover safety?

Walker's Ram took some pretty good hits and was always ready to go the following week.

Lot of times I'd see them with lights galore, other options now have removed most needs for that. Plus in the shorter beds that trucks have versus the 8 footer, it's taking up real estate that's even more valuable.

NFab sells one for the 2nd Gen. It would crumple in a rollover. GR Racing has one as a factory toyota item for the Hilux. I sort of want that one even thought it would also fold like a deck of cards in a rollover.

Some mounting points are on the bed rails....no bueno.

I liked the NFab bar I think it may have been discontinued? I was thinking about getting a back rack and mounting two 6" KC LED daylighters on it. Kind of want a headache rack on my Tacoma.

Most of those were for looks, or just to hold lights. They would bend in half or tear out of a bed during a roll-over.
There’s a guy around here in an 80’s Ford pick-up and he’s still rocking the chrome roll bar with yellow KC Daylighters.

Actually supposely newer models rely on glass as structural member so they're weaker in a rollover than like, a 1st gen.

They went the way of the mullet. And depending on where you look, that could mean they went nowhere. :)

Ford Performance had a roll bar in both black and chrome for current trucks.

Like that you have them. Don't like that they didn't fit your truck.

Very few of those were actual roll bars - they were show bars to look cool, and mount your lights on. That was how they were listed and sold, and usually had a warning sticker and instruction sheet that stated that it was not for protection.
