Bugflector or Bugflector 2

Thought of going with low profile that is secured via the 3M tape only. I think I have instead decided to go with the AVS Bugflector or Bugflector 2. Any recommendations and pics are always a help? For reference I have a 2017 Quicksand TRD. Thanks in advance.

 

I have the AVS and it looks good, but I wasn't impressed with the quality of it. Right out of the box it had several scratches and the holes had burrs all around them. Other folks had no such problems so I just got the oddball bad one. After that fiasco I went with weathertech window vents and the fit and finish and overall quality was fantastic.

When my Tacoma is parked over the winter I'm going to get the weathertech bug deflector and throw the AVS one away.

nice truck! can you share details on the side steps, whether it is lifted, tire size, and what looks like a skid plate on the front where the chin strap was? thank you.

 

I’ve been thinking about getting the Weathertech bug deflector for my Taco. I wonder if I need to drill holes or will screw right up. I don’t want one that has to have adhesive tape, that’s a no go for me. I put one on my Yukon and they do help with debris coming at you. The Weathertech one was $80, don’t know if Toyota sells one though.

 

The Weathertech is plug and play. Plastic molly's fit into exiting holes and then screw the shield into them. Should take about 10 mins total. They are fairly low profile....at least mine is. I have had them on my last 3 trucks.

 

Thanks for the reply, gonna order one today from Weathertech. Toyota does not sell an OEM bug deflector. Weathertech makes good stuff, got there floor mats and they fit like a glove.

 

Weather tech here and it uses holes already made under the hood.

The Weathertech and AVS are the exact same things. Made by the same company. This is a label from a WT shield. Notice the Bugflector name on it, which is AVS, and the WT part #.

I just went out and looked at my truck. That hood and seal are pretty tight with the front end. Knowing how the WT mounts to the bottom of the hood, what does it to do the spacing/seal?

 

Crap, good question, I didn’t think of that. Yes it seals very well right now. I hope it does not interfere with the factory fit and seal.

 

It was never an issue for me. Never had a problem with spacing. My hood spacing, I would say, is normal. They are on a lot of trucks for a reason....like I mentioned earlier...this is my 3rd one. Two tacos and a tundra.

Would you mind snapping a pic of the front with the hood closed? My concern is that an unmolested hood has a pretty tight seal with the front of the truck and very little clearance as it is. I was all set to buy the Weathertech until I looked closer at the lack of gap.

Well, mine will be here Saturday so I’ll see how it fits, another thing I do is put dielectric grease on all my seals, doors and hood once a year (since I keep vehicles till they are past all usefulness, lol). It keeps them soft so they seal better and will last much longer without getting hard and cracking. It also helps with wind noise.
