So I finally found a set of mud flaps that look like they won't rub in the front with my oversized tires, but I don't think they're wide enough. I'm running 285 70 17s, which are 11.50' wide, and the mudflaps are 11" wide. Do I need 12" wide mudflaps?

Well, for the sake of a mudflap doing its job, if they stick out to the same or a little more than the outside edge of the exposed tire, then you're fine. It depends on how they are mounted on the truck.

@23MGM Any recommendations on 12" wide "affordable" mudflaps?

Maybe the Rokblokz XL would fit well.

I can't say from personal experience, but people seem happy with Rek Gen and Rok Blokz. I have Husky, but I'm not lifted, so that probably isn't practical for you. I've seen some Rek Gens on a Tacoma that looked perfect for an oversized tire. Squirt is saying Rokblokz XL could be an option. I think it mostly has to do with mounting position on the truck that matters. The fender well will take care of everything inside the fender, you just need it to stick out slightly for protection.

@Squirt Any idea what this means? Are they referring to a certain slip-on cover? I see the picture, but I also see mudflaps.[IMG]

They cant be used if you have the TRD upgrade exhaust. If you are stock then your good to go.

I bought the truck second hand, do you know how to tell if the exhaust is an upgrade?

Does it look like it's stainless steal. That's all I can think of. Never seen one in person

I need to check it out. Never thought buying mud flaps would be this difficult, Lol. When I bought the truck I thought, "Why didn't the previous owner put mud flaps on it"... and now I know

It's easier with the 2nd gens. The upgrade exhaust wasn't even an option

They say you can't use them if you have the trd exhaust like all the new pros come with. I run the regular rokblokz on my 23 pro and I have that exhaust. The story goes one customer complained of discoloring of the flap after driving a long distance in really hot weather. I just ignored this warning completely and have had no issues. You can fit bigger tires with the rokblokz I run 255/85r16. 20231007_164501.jpg

Got 11.5" wide 275/70r17 0 offset Toyo R/T Trails ... rubbed mud flaps. Ordered Tufskinz to try out (have slotted holes for in/out adjustability.) While waiting for order decided to try trimming the oem's to clear. Also cut the bottom of both front/rear so they sit 12.5" from the ground. The Tufskin's are 11' wide/oem's are 10.5".

If your tires are wider than the fenders you need fender extensions, mud flaps are a waste of money. If your tires are inside the fenders, then mud flaps are a waste of money.

Don't waste money on mud flaps.
