Iceland

Columbus day's long weekend prompted an extended long weekend with a trip to Iceland. We drove from the airport to Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon; not far off the pavement, just east of the northern part of the Golden Circle.



From there we went south, to the ring road, and across to Vik, with a stop at Seljalandsfoss.






The next morning we drove up to the over-look just west of Vik, to see a black sand beach.







Next, over to Gulfoss - one of the most-famous waterfalls

We kept going east...found some road-side attractions:





On the left is the North American Tectonic plate, the Eurasian plate on the right.







And the famous Kirkjufell


For fans of the Movie "Walter Mitty" with Ben Stiller - here's the village where he jumped onto the helo after noticing the guy's thumb (center, right - yellow building is where he ran from, Helo was between there and the harbor



That's about it - we had about 5 days; it was incredible, cold, windy, perfect.

I believe the picture in the canyon with the “blue” person, the canyon was used as backdrop in “Game of Thrones”. It was the approach to one of the castle scenes. Did you get to the GOT “love grotto”?

 

Love Grotto was my college dorm room nickname. Beyond that, No...No idea. Not a GOT follower.
