Long time reader, first time posting. Recently joined the club with an 04, manual, 2WD, single cab base model. It has lived in California all its life so there's no rust except for a little bit on the paint of the hood. Has 156k miles, won't be a daily and it'll mainly be used to build my dream rig and weekend trips to the beach and camping. Purchased for 8k, thoughts? 20230912_080831.jpg20230913_093510.jpg 20230911_172034.jpg

Yes. You are here because you think you did, but want us to tell you that you did not.
But if you are happy, fuck it.

Ultimately you are the only one who can determine that. I haven't paid attention to value on these in recent years. Carfax sends me a monthly valuation on my 02 xtra cab 4wd, they say around $9k. If I'm to be honest, I thought the 5 lugs were maybe going for $5k in good condition. The market is pretty hot for these trucks in California. There was, maybe still is, a used dealer North of me that exclusively bought and sold Tacomas.

If it is a 5 lug, yes. If it's a prerunner that's a good price imo.

    You already bought it.
The purchase price makes no difference at this point.
Drive it, drive it more, and then keep driving it.

The only way you’ll ever come out ahead with a Tacoma is by driving it until it has no more useful value.
The main reason I bought a Tacoma was because it generally has a long lifespan before major issues and expenses.

I use my. I’m going to get every penny I spent, out of it.
When it has no more value, dig a hole and bury. Because it will be well worn out.

I agree with everything each person has posted above. I will only add geography has everything to do with the price between the west coast and the east coast and each state in between pricing will vary.

Just enjoy the truck if you like what you bought and and have fun with the miles that you put on it!

    For Cali, it's a manual, think you're in line if it's a prerunner (6 lug V6)

You liked it enough to pay for it, isn't that what matters? Now that you have it, make it your own and love it!

KBB said my old beat up 1998 ext cab 2WD with 450k was worth 6k in Cali, so I'd say it's decent.

Happy with purchase, cool. 5 lug, as long as it works for your needs just enjoy! Plenty of people have modded their 5 lug tacos. FYI, that decal on the bed is aftermarket though ;)

    Here's a thread to check out -
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...erd-suspension-guide-and-general-info.545351/

Be sure to browse the entire 5 lug forum. Lots of good info there.

    Congrats and enjoy!

It's the going rate here in Socal. If you checked it out and everything is mechanically sound, $8k isn't too bad for a piece of mind. You also scored a non rusted reg cab and those are hard to find. Most regular cabs here in Socal are beat down as they're used for daily task. You might've slightly over paid but then again, not by much.

Cheers and enjoy. What I learned in life is, money comes and goes.

I've got one that looks very much like that, with half the miles, no body damage, and a 5-speed manual transmission. Carfax seems to think it is worth about $8500 in Washington state. I wouldn't sell if for that, it's worth more to me. I bought in new so I can tell you that the original price for the base model was about $14k.

Owning a vehicle only becomes more of a value the longer you own it, especially if you don’t care about resale. If you plan to drive it into the ground, you’ve likely got a long way to go if you keep up with it. If you need reliable transportation and enjoy the vehicle you did alright
