E brake problems

I have a 2012 4x4 Tacoma and the ebrake doesn’t engage. I just bought the truck not too long ago and while change my rear brakes I noticed when I press my ebrake the brake light won’t turn on but it wouldn’t lock up. Then I started to mess with the adjusters in the drum brake and inside the cab and it still wouldn’t engage. I tried tugging on the ebrake line to see if the line is shot but it wasn’t. I’m very confused and don’t know what to do at this point. The last thing I wanna do is change the whole parking cable. I would love to see some inputs on this thank you.

 

Make sure your rear drums are put together proper with springs in good tensioning condition and in their right places, then adjust the rear drums so there is a "light drag". Then set your cab on up properly.

is there tension on your ebrake handle/pedal or is it pretty easy of a pull. Also/or check the cable tension with it released then set the brake fully and recheck that it actually tightens up.
