I'm sure this topic has been talked about at some point, but has anyone done a conversation to a manual tcase on a 3rd gen Tacoma with manual transmission? And everything work as it should? We have jeeps we wheel hard stuff most of the time but using my Tacoma for overlanding and less rough terrain. But the 4wd selector knob is pretty terrible at engaging and disengaging compared to a simple lever.

I’ve seen one guy on here do it but there was no real solution figured out for the ADD operation. It also requires doing some grinding on the back of the transmission so the transfer case rods can move forward without jamming into the transmission rear case half.

I wish it was easier, I’d love to have a manual case in mine.

I have a FJ case sitting the garage ready to go. My plan easy way - leave my working selector plugged in and out of the way.

The full on way is cut and splice - or buy spoofers to avoid Christmas tree on dash.

You can go further and put in a ADD delete in the front and use only the transfer case for activation.

YouTube search “trail to Touge” (Tacoma on 40’s)for rough idea in the easier automatic.

Also YouTube has 3 good tear down and rebuild transfer case videos for the transfer case if you’re DIY

I could write more but it’s all been written before.

True, but try to have the wheels in motion when engaging and disengaging. Doesn't like to go into 4H when sitting still.

My biggest problem is getting in and out of 4LO. Seems I constantly have to go from fwd to rvs multiple times to get it to kick out.

4LO ALWAYS works for me. It took me a bit to figure it out. I always stop fully, stomp the clutch all the way to the floor, twist the knob and it just goes. Moving back and forth only makes it worse for me.
