Good morning everyone, I have a question about my voltage drop after new power bastards 200a alt upgrade a new battery (not agm, just a regular lead battery). So I just upgraded my alternator to a power bastards 200a alt and a new lead battery from autozone because my old battery took a dump. I have a upgraded stereo, one 12inch skar audio sub and mids and highs with a bigger amps as well. I have a total of about 3500watts in amps to run the stereo! After replacing the battery and alt my voltage still drops into the mid to low 12's with stereo up and with it turned way down or even off I'm still only getting about 13.4-13.6 volts! I know I should probably run a better battery ( lithium or agm ) but I'm not and from what I read it's not gonna raise the volts with those types of batteries anyway because of the smart charging system from alternator?

Anyway my question is...... I see a lot of people running the diod mod or the Voltage booster pro for their agm batteries! Can I do this same thing to get more voltage out of my charging system with a "normal" lead battery? My amp to my sub recommends voltage between 14.2-14.4v.

Just a little added information, my truck is a 09 2.7l access cab

If you haven't already done so you need to upgrade your cables with that much wattage https://www.jeepcables.com/collecti...te-kit-gen-2-2005-2015?variant=40272261218364

Are you checking voltages at idle or high rpm's?

What's the difference between this and the Voltage booster pro?

The static voltage is on the low side. Check with who you bought the alternator from. Before you call them, I’d put an amp clamp on to see what it’s doing with the stereo off.

But this higher voltage is ok for a lead battery?

Don't know that either. Will have to look at your battery specs. But I have seen many vehicles in the past, like 80’s and before widespread usage of AGM batteries, that had voltage output in the 14-15 volt range on lead batteries.

Note: if you google it, normal alt output range is 13.5 to 14.5. Some entries say up to 14.8 is acceptable. The advantage of that adjustable voltage product is it lets you increase voltage in .2 increments.

Maybe someone knows why, not I. For ages, alternators charged to 14.7, then it changed to 14.2.

My work truck ran years on an alternator doing 13.??, I don’t remember exactly what it was but it was less than 13.5.
