Was underneath my 2023 for the first time today and spotted this section that looks like bare metal, the shape makes me think it was missed in the praying by a decal or clamp maybe? Anyway, should I just give it a spot coating of something to prevent rust, or is it ok to let it ride?

I live in a mostly dry climate that does get snow in winter.

I am not in a position rn to get a full undercoating, just wondering if I should spot treat this section.

what is the yellowish stuff? the voids look to have paint under them to me. some compatible treatment over that would net be a bad idea
in the untreated area above I do see a spot that looks dark like steel, I'd get some touch-up paint and fix it before it starts to rust then a coat of the aforementioned yellowish stuff

Haha my truck is Lime so the yellowish stuff you see is light green applied by factory. This is under the passenger door.

it looks silver with a Cosmoline coat to me
A spot treatment of Cosmoline over the spots and the notable bolts that do get rusty over time might work, assuming your roads don't get salt/brine in the winter

Spray all metal with rust oleum. I hand sprayed my underturuck with crc. It took 6 bottles but I feel it’s a start. Good luck

Looks like a scrape from hoist. Someone didn't have hoist positioned correctly and caught before lifting it.

Is the base coat under the lime paint silver paint? Maybe that's it.

I was wondering that too, not entirely sure if it's bare metal or just a silver coating under the lime

Spray any bare spots with a rust preventative paint.

Then do a coat of Woolwax to prevent any rust in the future. Hitting any ice preventative chemicals or some corrosive soil will get the rust started.

It's much easier to prevent rust than to try to remedy after it is already started

I live in a very non-corrosive environment with no winter, but we do go to Tahoe and go offroad.

In such an environment, the woolwax asts forever on one application...

I did it myself. I ordered a six pack of the spray cans. I have some left over for touch-ups.

If you like your truck, want it to last, and dont want it to rust, you should make the time to spray some sort of corrosion protection on everything metal, that isnt the brakes or exhaust. Yes, I understand you dont think you live in a corrosive environment but, rust doesnt need chemicals, just bare metal, and moisture. so a scratch, void, etc... and a puddle, or just the morning dew, will start the process. you spent close to 50k on the truck, take a few hours and a hundred bucks or so, and protect your investment. just my .02 Ski

Just cosmoline it and be done. This isn't a major tragedy.

The mechanic at work uses Fluid Film on every new vehicle when they come in. He said he sprays everything underneath (well most everything).

Use a little clear coat paint on it or keep an eye on it for rust. Unless you drive a lot on salted roads I doubt you will have any problems with that spot even if you do nothing.
