I just changed my rear shocks (5100's) and I plan on letting them settle down some before I swap out the front shocks and springs. I'm not really planning/wanting to lift the truck and am planning on staying as close to stock as I can. That said, what is the normal height of the truck and where should I measure it?

Middle of the rim to wheel well. New stock ride height will have a slight rake. The front you’ll want your cv axel straight from diff into the hub. When your cv axel boot ribs touch and spin they tend to wear and loose grease over time. Also shocks won’t lift the rear if that what your thinking.

Toytec coilovers. Height adjustable Bilstein's. 265/75/16 MT. TRD wheels. Rebuilt r150f. Marlin clutch kit. All kinds of new parts...
Stock ride height from center of hub to middle of fender should be around 19-20. 23" on the front is the max you want to go to avoid stressing things out up front. The back will be about 1-2" higher with the slight rake on a stock one. If the rear leaf springs are slightly warn it could be the same or slightly lower. One side will measure different on the back most of the time but this is normal taco lean.

Shocks don't set ride height, springs do that.

Feel free to proceed to working on the front.

If you use stock springs and 0 clip on front, you will be at stock height.

Shocks don't change ride height*. Chaning out just your rear shocks should not have changed anything other than the quality of the ride.

*There are some shocks that are designed to support weight- usually air / nitrogen charged. But not 5100s.

Shocks may not normally affect ride height, but mine is clearly sitting a little higher since I got rid of the KYB shocks (one of which was leaking) that were on it when I got the truck. I am going to do some measurements as soon as I get the truck back from the shop.

It doesn't matter how blown out the previous shocks where. They weren't supporting any weight, and neither are your new ones.

To answer the question, stock height is "around 20 inches" from center of front hub to the bottom of the fender/wheel well. I replaced my coilovers with a set using Moog 81104 springs, brand new it was 22.5" with no visible rake, settled in to exactly 21.5" after 400 miles or so. It's going to vary a bit from one truck to the next, or if the springs are beyond stock or worn out.

The leaf springs adjust ride height or the bracket can as well. A shock only keeps it from bouncing. If you put on too large of a shock you could blow out the shock way early being it won’t have enough [or any] either inbound movement or outbound movement.

You are the MAN! Once again, I'm trying to find 98 tacoma sr5 OR 4x4 stock height, I'm googling and searching all different phrases here. I find the answer, and sure enough, 2 days ago, rocknbil! Thanks!
