Transmission fluid level

    While doing a motor oil change, i accidently removed the transmission drain plug and lost some oil. i put the plug back in, but i may have lost aboot half a quart or more. How do I check the level, and how do I a more fluid?

    If you have a 4 cylinder, it takes Type IV ATF and the dipstick is marked with hot and cold marks. Use a funnel to add ATF through the dipstick tube.

    If you have a V6, as you can see above, it is a bit more complicated. ATF is Type WS. The tricky part is removing the correct pan plug during the correct temp range. I don't use the stick-a-wire in the OBD port method. My UltraGauge displays ATF temps but I have used my IR gun on the pan and the readings are within 3 degrees from the UltaGauge. Alternatively, some code readers like the Ancel TD700, can read Toyota/Lexus ATF temps.
