I installed a ICOM 2730a into the sunglass holder of my 2015 Tacoma. It fits perfect without cutting up any plastic. The holder closes without any issues or modifications. I wanted the cleanest install and to hide the detachable faceplate on demand. This entire install I only drilled 1 hole into the plastic holder for the faceplate signal cable.

First I purchased a Toyota Switch blank keystone that can I can attach a RJ45 CAT 6 Ethernet Cable for the Microphone.

    https://www.shapeways.com/product/2...ith-keystone?optionId=62496829&li=marketplace

I then purchased a RJ45 keystone jack inline coupler that goes into the blank. If someone lives local to me in SoCal I can give you one of these for free.

For the main body of the unit sits ontop of the rear floorboard vent. I used industrial strength velcro and one side of the velcro holds the main body very well on the carpet under the passenger seat. I then used a large zip to secure main body around the floor board HVAC vent. No fancy brakets needed here and the main unit is very secure.

Everything else is pretty much straight forward.

My buddy 3D printed a Mic Mount for me. I do not like the style of mount the ICOM uses. I might switch to a magnetic mount. Any ideas for a mic holder? Still thinking of the best way to attach the mic. I am thinking of him printing me a flat mount so I can stick on a magnet to it.

I also installed a ICOM SP-35 external speaker using existing screws that are above the passenger footwell. Again no drilling!

    Anyway Here are some pictures.

No worries for high temperature? OEM Temp/Compass pcb suffers from overheating in same position.

I'm not too worried about it. ICOM builds their units to military specifications for high and low temperatures. If anything pops up I'll report it.

Anntena is going through an existing small hole in the grommet on the driver side. NMO ham radio mount is on my Sherpa Rack as seen in the picture with a rain cover on. I routed the wire between my windshield and A pillar. There is a small gap that the antenna fits perfect into.

I recently installed an ICOM 2730A into the sunglass holder of my 2015 Tacoma, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. The unit fits perfectly without the need to cut or modify any plastic, and the holder closes without any issues or modifications. I aimed for the cleanest possible install and wanted the option to hide the detachable faceplate when needed. For the entire install, I only had to drill one small hole in the plastic holder for the faceplate signal cable.
