    Original owner.

I love my 2008 Tacoma. I bought it new (after Toyota bought back my '98 Tacoma) in 2008. I have gleefully racked up nearly every single one of the 353,189 miles on the odometer. I have personally completed nearly ALL of the maintenance, upgrades, and repairs on this truck.

I have replaced: (in ~order of frequency) oil, other fluids, brakes, tires, bulbs, wheel bearings, shocks & suspension parts,... all of which I consider "wear" parts. Expendibles.

But today my old dependable truck suffered it's first real failure. A sad and unfortunate loss.
Tonight we mourn the rear bumper, and remember all it has been through.

But to get to the point; is there anybody around central Ohio who has a 2nd Gen rear bumper for sale? Preferably an aftermarket "offroad" type, and preferably ChEaP?!

Also, for you other long time Tacoma owners, what was your truck's first REAL failure?

Yeah, like the frame beside the converter on the drivers side.
And the rear frame on passenger side of the bed next to the muffler?

    Those are prone to rot.
    If the bumper rotted out.
I bet those spots are too.
Unless it’s had a frame replacement?

First failure was a faulty rear door window switch, which was fixed under warranty. First failure I paid for was a wobbly center bearing, aka carrier bearing, at about 150K. Amazon has some cheap rear bumpers. Seen them as low as $200. Oedro has a decent offroad looking bumper on sale for $365.

How's the rest of the frame? Not great. Toyota inspected it years ago - I got the free undercoating rather than a new frame. The only real bad spot now is on the passenger side near the cross-member.

That's not really a bumper failure per se. It's a failure to properly rust-protect the bumper against harsh winters & road de-icing chemicals.

Gotta love a truck that will rust out before it fails mechanically.

Me too, wouldn’t want someone to locate the truck and steal the bumper.
