Peforway Winch Bumper on Amazon. Anyone try it???

Ok, I'm probably going to get slammed on this one but have to ask...

Anyone see it or tried it? Looks to be a knockoff or the Body Armor Highline.

 

They use a picture of an 05 Tacoma as their "Before" picture, which doesn't exactly give trustworthy vibes. The welds on the d-ring mounts look a little sus as well. Quality/fitup would be a concern, but since it's coming from Amazon you could always return it if you want. Of course that may cost you a few bucks (I don't see free returns listed), and you may have already hacked up your bumper at that point...

 

Yeah, and some of the fitment pics are obviously photo shopped (and a bad job at that...). But I do have the option of returning if needed. I'll inspect thoroughly when it arrives and report back.

 

Post lots of pics. Not interested, other than to see how big a rip off it is.

 

Chineseum. Hard pass. On top of shitty welds/fitment, god only knows what kind of metal it's made of. Your winch may just pull it off.

Just received the BA knockoff bumper. yeah, some blems on the finish and the welds look like something I would have done in trade school but it's not terrible to me. I guess the steel thickness probably qualifies but it's not exact. Anyways, here's the pics...

 

Definitely looks like it could use some extra bracing and better welds.

Edit- and, like most bumper of this type, a set of frame tie-ins/reinforcement brackets e.g. C4Fab's

Install was pretty straight forward. Followed the BA instructions and multiple youtube videos. Everything lined up pretty well. No issues on the fitment. Badland Apex 12k winch fit nicely behind the grill and no remoting of the control box or mods of the hood latch support. Only concern I have is the fluid cooler re-location brackets. Passenger side bolt head is extremely close to the tube. And you don't replace the bolt you must remove from the top of the frame that secure the cooler lines. But that's with the BA version as well, so no secret there. Other than cosmetic, I don't see the difference from this one and the BA Hiline. I'll touch up the scratches before it starts rusting, hopefully. Just hope it doesn't break...

 

overall are you happy with it? It looks good (except the welds..) but makes the truck look awesome

 

Yeah, happy for now. Ascetically I think it's fine. and I'm sure it'll handle what I put it through. I'll try and put the truck in a precarious situation this weekend and stretch the line. Will post after action report.

 

It turned out great. Looks really nice on your truck and no issue with installing. I think I’m going to order one. The one you got on Amazon seems to be out of stock but eBay has the same thing as well.

 

If you're on a budget build and like this style I think you'll be happy with it. oh, the only other thing is I added some 5/16 lock washers to the light mount, just because. Everything else was out of the box.

Will it be strong enough with winching?

I'm really not sure if mounting reinforcements would help in this situation but this is my first store bought winch bumper, so unfamiliar with this sort of reinforcement. But frame attachment seems solid. Hopefully someone else can chime in here.

 

I just got off the phone with extreme terrain support. Spoke with a guy who seemed knowledgeable with the Hiline bumpers and Tacomas. He said I am overthinking it with the reinforcements. He said install, and dont worry about it. I'm still trying to connect with my mechanic to get his thoughts on the matter. Thanks

 

I'm no expert, but I don't see how the add on reinforcements would help in a parallel pull (proper intended use). Maybe it would give some strength when pulling outside the degrees of intended use and help with lateral strength. That would be the only reason for additional support in this design.
