On KBB you can choose buy from a private seller, and it gives me a value of 24.6k. But doing the car value option (selling privately) it only says 22.8k. Why are these values different? Buying and selling privately should be the same number, no?

If I owned a site, and you liked what I had to show you, you'd probably come back right?

KBB is free, and the traffic it generates is enough to fatten up their wallet with all the advertising they have.

KBB should be considered very loosely, as there are multiple variables that can alter a vehicle's value easily considering it has a generic category for condition not to mention doesn't fully take into account the market geographically.

There are die-hard KBB users only to be disappointed when they sell or trade their vehicle via private party or to a dealership and discover their vehicle's true value.

I would think they should be the same but not that far off. I always used KBB but lately I've been checking with the big car wholesale buyers. Carmax, vroom, carvanna and getting a value they would pay for the exact car I'm looking to buy. It seems like there numbers have been dropping over the past year.

Typically, a seller ask more than the truck is worth.
And the buyer wants to pay less than the truck is worth.

So, the seller adds $2,000 of their price to make it $24k
And the buyer negotiates the price down from $24k down to $22k.

Both parties are happy. Deals done.

Actually, I have no idea why the prices are different.
I don’t use KBB. I research myself, and see what other are asking and get a rough idea from there.
