I have been having this issue for months. The trans sticks when shifting and bought a doorman speed sensor yesterday, slapped it on and transmission was running great, better than ever, but when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear, it stutters and the check engine light pops on along with the flashing “O/D OFF”, showing the Vehicle Speed Sensor code. Checked all the fuses, they are in good working order. Don’t think it’s the speedometer itself because of the codes it is throwing on the dash.

I’d check on the wiring going to the speed sensor underneath, it could be damaged and screwing up the sensor signal.

Assuming the 95 in your sig and that you have a P0500 code here's some reading material.

The testing steps leave some to be desired but the vehicle speed sensor is actually on the back of the speedometer in the instrument cluster, it's just a magnetic reed switch that sends pulses to the PCM when the speedometer cable rotates.

No power is going to the speed sensor plug connection, so I’m taking the ecm to a Napa that has a tester. I pulled the gauge off and the Speedo cable is not spinning, but my buddy pulled it off the trans and spun it and the odometer needle was bouncing, so I’m gonna try a new speedo cable and see how the ecm is. Thanks everyone for your suggestions
