    I'm asuming P0500?

If your speedometer always works then most likely it's the instrument cluster that is failing.
But there is some testing you can do if the problem occurs consistently.

If you have a scanner that can read vehicle speed from the PCM it may be a very simple diagnosis, catch it when it's reading 0 while driving and give the cluster a few taps. If it starts reading again you know for sure it's the cluster, if not then further diagnosis is required.

Thanks I’ll have to do some research. The speedometer and cruise control works fine.I read where
possibly the whole cluster can go bad.

    It can…….
And if you live in a state with inspection. It can get expensive.
That’s kind of why I said, “If the speedometer still works. Live with it”.
Sure, fixing it would be nice. But it’s time consuming and expensive.
That is, if in fact, if it’s the cluster.

The most common cause seems to be the cluster but never hurts to test.
I suspect it's probably a cracked solder joint in the cluster that causes this but I have yet to see somone take one apart, find it, and fix it.

Wow that's crazy where he is you can't legally alter mileage in any way, in the US as far as I know as long as it's marked not actual mileage on the title when the vehicle is sold there's nothing wrong with doing so.

We do know that there is a workaround to bypass the circuit in the cluster, it works on 05 at least. Essentially we disconnected the output wire from the cluster and connected it to the input wire.
