    Dining room table build update:
Legs are done. Picked up the 40X84X2 Pecan slab at the mill where I had it planed and rough sanded. I joined the three slabs with biscuits and glue and epoxyed the checks and blemishes. It looked like a shit show, so bad I took zero pics. Took it a few weeks ago and got it back today and it looks amazing.
Tonight and tomorrow is sand sand sand and locate and install nutserts to fasten top to base. Only problem is the top is right at 200lbs and 40" wide so flipping it by myself is not feasible. So, I have to work on my son in laws schedule. Anyway here are pics and the Pecan wood looks amazing.

My wife is excited, and I am right at the edge of running out of talent on this project. It's getting close to needing fine furniture making talent and I think my talent tank is too small lol. Enjoy!

Thanks! I have even put the tape measure away and broke out the Lufkin folding rule to be more precise. Using a marking knife instead of a pencil.

No. This is just from my head. I made a sketch, googled typical height, width and length of a typical table and started cutting.

I have never had any luck with that style of anchor -- unless you consider using them to make a hole for a toggle bolt lucky...

For this application, the drywall will be the weak point, not the anchor, so I'm not worried about it.
Once I drilled out the hole a bit, the anchors all went in fine.

All of the rods are up but my wife needs to hem the curtains for the patio door. We also ordered another set of the sheer panels so I'll have to do some regrouping with taking rods down to add them.

It is amazing how different the room looks now. :)

    Dining Room Table Top Update:
So I saved this part for last because it involves opinion and "feelings."
One side live edge is really buggy, which is fine. Pecan trees always have a lot of bugs under their bark. I decided to leave it sorta buggy, so you can still see the trails, just a lot fainter. I like to leave live edge as original as possible but not to the point of being unattractive just for authentic sake. So, here is what I am doing now:

I think knocked down but still leaving that character is the right call.

Well fellers, today was the day - the oil furnace installed in 1969 is coming out.

Welcome to hell, or at least heck.

    KIMG3437.jpg

The principal problem (for me) is that the floor joists are 5 foot 3-3/4 inches off the floor - for reference I'm 5'11".

    The wildlife.

    KIMG3441.jpg

The furnace is massive, way oversized for the house - 175,000 BTU input.

    KIMG3438.jpg

These things are like erector sets - just put together with zip screws. They come apart the same way, just with more grunting & swearing.

Thats going to look good, once done. Like the live edge, it gives a good conversation topic.
