Anyone have any idea why I might be getting a chaotic rattle while only in 4wd? I don't think it is the drive shaft so don't blow up the comments with that haha.
It sounds like a Ping Pong ball dropping on a table, but it is going on in front of and below the driver side. Almost sounds like there is a piece broken off somewhere that is just rolling around as the gears turn or something. It isn't a steady rattle like a U joint would be.
Also, while the rattle was happening, I pushed the clutch and I could feel the vibrations of it through the clutch. Could be in the transfer case or front Diff?

in motion and worse on rough trails (hard to recreate it on smooth roads in 4wd)

Could be something in the hub assembly or the automatic hub. I had a similar noise but I have manual hubs. I took my hub apart and greased it up as they were dry and noise went away.
