Huh? Am I on candid camera? o_O

Well I do admit those little kits do look better though. Will probably buy that eventually!

So what's the verdict of the 3rd gen aluminum oil filter housing?
What is the Correct part number?
Do I need to swap the core over?
Can I reuse the plug from old plastic?
    What is the Amazon link?

It seems the verdict is "maybe".

Would recommend buying an aluminum one upgrade, mine was sized and couldn't get it removed. Now at the dealership to get it fix and hopefully get it resolved

Wow this was a dead thread. Funny though cause my OEM aluminum one just showed up on the mail yesterday.

Installed mine at the last oil change, goes on much smoother then the plastic one. Think the dealer over torqued mine and slightly rolled the plastic thread, it dragged all the way off.

I wasted almost my whole day trying to take the housing off with those autozone filter caps and no luck, before I broke it and be without a truck I fill it with new oil and now paying twice to get it done. My VW/Audi master technician did not want to touch it since he was worried he might break it without the proper key cap being plastic

So I ordered the housing & plug from BAM part number 15620-31060
I get a message back saying according to my VIN, it's the wrong cap & I need the plastic one. I've searched & it seems to be a maybe/maybe not. Is it the right one? Coming up on the 1st oil change at 2500 miles soon & want to be ready. Don't want to be in the middle of a oil change on a Sunday in my garage & get caught scrambling for parts in the middle of it.

So the plastic housing doesn’t seize
The o-ring is what binds up.
Use a QUALITY filter housing tool, not the junk from the parts stores. I use the MotivX tool, it’s very nice. To loosen the housing, I use the MotivX socket along with a 1/2” breaker bar, I use a 24”.

    it’s super easy, nearly effortless

Yes it's the correct part number
Toyota Oil Filter Cap - 15620-31060

You will need to put the smaller o ring and take the plug off the plastic one.

Just order on Amazon or another Toyota dealer

It all depends on how many times they taken it off and on. Weather plays a factor and it's plastic so it's longevity isn't there compared to the aluminum

I ordered the plug too. It will go in a drawer for the just in case moment. I'm not new at this, I've had hot rods & drag cars my whole life (72). I always use a small amount of lithium grease on orings so they don't stick, threads too. Then install hand tight. This will be the first oil change coming up in a few weeks.

Genuine 04152-YZZA1 oil filter with Genuine 15620-31060 Oil Filter Housing Cap and 15643-31050 Cap Plug includes APSG Wrench and crush washer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XZF7JW4

Sorry for the dumb question in advance, but I wanna make sure it's the correct one for my tacoma. Amazon says it fits a 2017 tacoma but even so I trust a taco bell meat more than I would amazon lol. Thanks a ton y'all.

Yes, if you have a 3.5L it’s the correct cap

I bought one planning to cycle it in if I broke the plastic one on my oil changes, but have ended up deciding it's easier to pay someone else to do oil changes instead due to not having an easy place to actually do the work. Figured I'll eventually use the aluminum one once I move somewhere I can set up a place to work under the truck properly, and in the mean time I'd rather someone else breaks the plastic housing and just replaces it than do it wrong and mess up the aluminum piece or the threading.

@BTL Y-Wing Is it your 1st aluminum housing you've used? Or have you had some on prior tacomas (or other toyota vehicles)
