No they went in and one guy went to fence row at top of hill in case they jumped it to see direction he went. he had bled where we jumped him last night. bedded again. and sometime walked to the fence. walking, small drops not splattered like running. jumped fence. blood stopped. found one drop at another fence and that was it. soo hoping he will heal. hard lesson for the son. and dang if they didnt jump a Stud buck up there crawling through the thick stuff on his land that was bedded. 135 in + deer. Thanks for asking. been so busy havnt had time to post today:thumbsup:

Sorta defeats the purpose of a saddle don't it?

I run three two step muddy sticks with DIY paracord (1200lb) rope aiders, a 2 step aider on the bottom stick and single aiders for the top two. The bottom 2 step aider doubles as my carry strap for the sticks. So it's ten steps that way, gets me to around 18' comfortably and negligible weight to carry. When I upgrade I am buying Tetherd one sticks. Using sticks is mostly about spacing. If you stretch them out it's gonna be tough.

Back in the day we used Baker tree stands. One fella and his sons used a board with a choker steel sling for their seat climber part and the platform for the bottom. More or less saddle hunting like the video shows. You ain't lived till you took a ride on a slick bark tree in the dark in a baker stand.

NOPE! Might be a good option for you and other public land hunters. I’m fortunate enough to own and lease some private land in really good Whitetail country. I currently have 16 hang-on stands with climbing sticks, 6 pop-ups and 1 tower stand. That gives me many options to move around, I can get in and out quickly and quietly and not work up a sweat. I know saddle hunting is growing in popularity but, no new tricks for this old dog.

    HECK NO!

While I know thats a really cool solution, and I actually really love the simplicity of a climber, I wouldn't ever in a million years do that. Too many safety issues for me. Firstly, and this is an easy fix, he didn't have any tether from him to the bottom platform. If the bottom platform slides down the tree, or slips off his feet, he's got no way down. Thats an easy fix though - just run some paracord from your saddle to the platform to catch it if it falls. The real issue though, is he's introducing 5-6' of slack in the only thing holding him to the tree, 20' up the tree, in a saddle. Saddles are not safety harnesses; they are not designed for falls, and they are not rated for falls. A 5' fall down the tree while he's trying to adjust his tether up, simply hoping that the prusic knot catches on the end knot in his tether turns into 8-9' fall really quick. That much load being applied to a saddle is a sure way to not go home that night, even if it did happen to withstand the fall. Thats just not a "safe" climbing method. The simplest solution, at least use a linemans belt. That gives you at least something else to hook you to the tree while you're adjusting the main tether.

    Ahh,nope, for me at least.
Yes, it may be an alternative, but I'd feel safer with a climber.
I spent a career climbing utility poles and working aloft, but now at my age and shoulder issues, anything but a ladder is not in the cards.

proud of my son. he calls a neighbor that he knows, wouldnt give the landowner’s number behind him but called him for Shawn. The landowner called my son and was very kind but would not give permission to look for his deer. he leases it and its high dollar as this is one of our BEST areas for big deer. said if they find it he would atleast get him the rack and if they saw it and was wounded would shoot it and give to him. he sent trail cam pic to them. thats nice but im alittle hard core. my opinion is thats nice but if they ever call to track a big one the answer should be the same and God forbid if i caught them on him tracking without permission, well thats up to him but with me it would be a problem

Edited. Rough day at work, worst I’ve had in a long time. Coloring my judgement it seems, the saddle junk. Y’all have a great eve.
