I wouldn't get all excited for a TX built truck. Starting pay for assemblers is not even close to a living wage. No wonder these trucks are built like ass.

:spy: this is literally my job - transferring production of product between suppliers and plants, internal and external. Not for Toyota, but still...I get paid to do this kind of stuff

It absolutely makes a difference. Whether that difference is appreciable, that's a different story. I DO know that the build process from US to MX is significantly different (they aren't mirrored lines). That said, I think the MX plant has a better quality record than San Antonio (that was heresay so I don't have a source on that one). And they've been building types of turd gens all along alongside San Antonio, something like all 4 bangers, all short cabs, etc (I don't actually remember the specifics) were always MX. And, the last nail in the coffin....Name a company who is BETTER at defining, establishing, and executing production lines than Toyota :)

Is there a difference? 100%. Does it matter? Absolutely not.

The be all end all.... If it doesnt matter then there is no difference to John Q public, and that was my point

To add I'm pretty sure all the engines are assembled at the Alabama plant. So where the truck was built makes no difference if it will leak or not.

Truck is done. The master mechanic did it and didn't have to pull the engine thankfully. They have been running and driving it for a couple days now and so far, so good. They plan to release it tomorrow to me as long as it continues to pass the test.

You'll still need to keep an eye on it... like forever. A coworkers elderly parents have a 2016 Taco and they have had it fixed twice and it's currently needing to be fixed a 3rd time.

2 different dealers. After it failed after the repair they tried a new dealer. EACH time they paid like 4k to get it fixed. They are not going to repair it a 3rd time.

It’s not uncommon for dealers to fix these leaks and then they’re leaking 10, 20k miles later. That’s why so many people leave it alone if it’s a weep. Hopefully, the OP has a permanent fix.

Hopefully all is well. Sucks, Your truck is too new for major surgery. If it was me I'd be Looking over your entire engine bay with a fine tooth comb. Touch and see if things are secure and they didn't overlook something like a tool being left behind or a loose connector.

Take a picture of the side of the engine through the wheel well on the passenger side. I’m curious to see if they used the black sealer and how much is oozing out between the timing cover and head/block.

Maybe the timing cover leak could be solved if they built the engine in Mexico? Alabama has had enough time to figure it out.

Hearing about these issues makes me want to just start leasing my vehicles. Drive em hard, change the oil….whenever! Then give ‘em back when the lease is up.
