I get your point. I’m just being cautious for a change. Drove every other truck I had into the ground the same, but I’ve always wanted this model Tacoma. So, actually attaining it made me want to take care of her. No issues, just figured it couldn’t hurt since I was changing oil anyways.

I don’t want to pile on, but your rationale is the truck is a 4wd because you took it up a 4x4 access only road???o_O

That just makes my brain hurt.

Tell me you shifted it into 4wd with the switch on the dash and visibly saw the illuminated dash icon, because the truck doesn’t just know when it should turn the 4wd on by itself.

And 4x4 access only road is relative. I’ve driven plenty of roads that weren’t supposed to be passable for a 2wd that were no issue without 4wd.

There is a specific temp needed for the fluid check. If you let it cool down and add more you will overfill the transmission.

Either you can use a OBD scan tool to read the temp, use a IR thermometer or use the jumper wire trick.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-drain-refill-automatic-transmission.63851/

No need for good photos, its very clear if it has the front diff and axles.

I did the wire trick and followed the procedure, was just questioning the amount I got out of the overflow once I did the temp check. (Just a few drips) But I think I’m just tired and overthinking it because I kept track of drain/fill amounts.

Looks like the mystery of the Early Friday Caper is solved. That looks like a standard 6 Lug TRD Sport 4x4. Paperwork is smaperwork, like was mentioned VIN can help you get firm understanding. FWIW, on two separate paperwork my Tacoma was listed as both Brown and then Silver (I'd argue Pyrite Mica is BRONZE) and asked nicely at my local MVC to change it. Another time my A6 was marked as an Avant which didn't exist in the states for that production year (it's just a sedan). Dealerships are run by people, and people are silly.

Congrats on the tacoma! double cab long bed at that.

Was going to suggest the toyota VIN lookup to get a better sense of the factory spec, which you can do via toyota.com and a login, or some dealer sites without: https://parts.olathetoyota.com/vin-decoder

My PreRunner is a TRD Sport. Towing package too.

Yep. If it says PreRunner on the tailgate, it's most likely that it was swapped with one of the other Tacomas in the fleet.

And I've had colors and even load/GVW wrong in the paperwork on previous vehicles as well.

The hood scoop, decals, paint matched body details (bumpers/mirrors) suggest a TRD Sport.
4wd Dash knob (right of steering wheel) is my go to visual indicator of 4x4

did any 4x4 TRD Sports ship with the diff lock?

Still not as bad as the recent post of a rebadged Tacoma. 4x4 Prerunner TRD Sport Pro Off-road TRD.

If you run the VIN on my SR5 it comes back as a TRD Pro which it most definitely is not. So that one showing Prerunner somehow is not really any kind of surprise.

FWIW, my dealer had my truck badged as a T/X pro but it was actually a Baja. which probably worked in my favor since the Bajas are a little rarer.

It may have helped you in this scenario too.
