Console problems, Radio, and other items.

When I bought my 2016 tacoma, I did not have to use Entune or anything like that for it to do many things.
I was able to web search, I was able to do gas buddy, I was able to Iheart, and many other things.
Then about 6 months later, it FORCED me to update.

Then comes the problems.... Nothing works until you update.
Entune wasn't bad, I could tolerate that...but then more updates
come and nothing worked unless the latest and greatest Entune was
installed.

Now...through forced updates I must have a Toyota App installed on phone,
I must have my vehicle registered, I must have spam crap available on my
phone for the Toyota App. I must have location on. I must expose all my
privacy, or nothing at all works.....Even if it is exposed on my phone, nothing
works at all on the Console except for Navigation. Weather will sometimes
work, but mostly no HD available.

My question is....

Is it possible to reset my Truck back to the original software that it had,
so that everything works, and i do not have to put my personal info on
a worthless Toyota app that has no business with my info in the first place?

 

Welcome to the forum. Just wait until the end of the month when Toyota deletes most of this.

 

That's weird, i never had to do any of that but the only thing i do is play music off my iphone library via bluetooth, i have no need for any of that other sit.

 

You can also purchase a 15 dollar FM transmitter and do exactly what you are doing now.

When I was able to use the console at the beginning, you were able to do a LOT of stuff on the run....most without
a phone. Then the entune was force upon us, and that required you to use a phone for most of the stuff. Which
I didn't mind to much.

But now...

toyota app is very very invasive in every area there is. This is all wrong. And I am being forced to use it,
or practically nothing works on the console....Which means I basically have a worthless screen on my truck
that does navigation (from a USB chip you gotta update every so often) and weather that works half the time.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything else that works on the console other than Music.

 

Great news. For under $1,000 I can solve all your problems. Replace the radio with any aftermarket model of your choosing. Many even do what you want without the privacy issues.

seriously, don't ever do updates unless it fixes a problem you're already experiencing. and even then, all updates everywhere usually break something else.

 

that is the difference between you and I. I Paid for the stuff, and want it back. You paid for the stuff and do not care
if it is taken away, because you run it through your bluetooth.

 

You don't have a choice....The screen goes blank and nothing works until you do update. Navigation doesn't work, radio doesn't work, nothing.
It is a forced situation.

 

Yep. You'll have to erase user data. I just did it on my Tacoma when I learned the apps I had installed will no longer function. The update they are going to push out will remove the support from the app but you'll need to erase the user data to remove the apps from your truck.

My first guess is, this will not affect me at all. . .Toyota App has never worked for me. Not even once.
I look at the consumer rating, and there is a whole whale of a lot of 1 stars. (including my one single worthless star too).

Maybe, just maybe they will allow the original software to be installed when I purchased the vehicle. THAT would
be very nice.

 

to be fair, i specifically own a tacoma over a ranger, colorado, etc specifically because i can replace the radio. it's my first rule of anything i own. the vehicle functionality that i require is simply that the radio can come out, and the truck can operate as a normal vehicle for a full month. most other 'integrated' radio's won't allow such an operation.

it's not about cost, it's about personal options.
