King preload adjusment

Those of you with kings oem fit specifically with 2nd and 3rd gens how are you adjusting preload? I need to add more after putting more weight up front. I’ve heard the shit storm stories of people using cheap spring compressors to adjust but is it really dangerous if I’m not taking the springs off and just adjusting them? I could just take them off and bring em somewhere to get adjusted but I’d like to find tune em myself instead of keep bringing it back to a shop. Can I just use 3 of those cheap ones from autozone and adjust preload like that then put em back on the truck? I’ve also tried jacking the truck up , loosening the collar and adjusting them that way but the resi house gets in the way of that and I start to ding em up. Any input is appreciated
