Curious how this would look from a polling standpoint. With aging and failing paint; are you a patina person? Re-paint? Or vinyl (or other) cover-up?

I've got some clear/color failure starting on the roof and on the hood, closest to the windshield. I've always waxed and a one-step polish once a year.
Doesn't really bother me considering the other scratches on the truck. But I know some people out there love a showroom shine. I'm guessing this might fall along the lines of how it's used. O/R and work people won't care about appearance. The rest will split between the latter. thoughts?

There was one person on here that had clearcoat failure on the roof so he got some duplicolor with his paint code and got the 2X clear and he did it himself, he said it wasn’t a perfect factory job, but it did come out very good

I’d say if you could find a shop that’s could do a decent paint job for 5k repaint and keep another 10 year probably worth it. But in case like my paint repair guy who does high end work a full repaint would be 12-15k so in that case no. A good paint supply company can put your color in a spray can and clear and plenty of guys with a good prep have gotten very good results that way.

So far everyone is on repaint except me lol. I'm surprised, considering what we generally know about classics and how original paint, patina'd or not, holds value over resprays. I know 99.9% of tacomas won't be considered classics due to volume, amongst other things. But I kinda figured I'd see some more interest in leaving the paint as-is.

As long as it isn't rusting, and when that happens I'll likely spray it myself. The clear on my roof, hood, door tops, and fender flares are all failing to a certain degree. No point in a high dollar paint job that'll just get destroyed off road.

I just wish Toyota would invest in making their finishes more reliable.

This is my thought, exactly. You can buy a pretty (decent) cheap spray gun these days and get some pretty good results in your garage.
