    Hi guys,

Some *[beep]* try to stole my Tacoma this week. He shattered the driver window then opened the door. It's the alarm system that woke me up. He was gone by the time I ran outside to *[beep]* him up. No glass in stock nearby (Canada), 27 in Kentucky... So my baby will sleep in a secured parking at the dealer for few days.

It's a 2021, Manual transmission with physical key (no push button/keyless start). Google search is a real pain. I couldn't get a clear confirmation if OBD hack to start/steal a car only works on keyless entry cars.

Do I need to worry about the OBD port if my truck isn't keyless?

I haven't worried about car theft in years.
They cut the steering if I put a steering lock and apparently it's wasting money and batteries to put a tags/tracker system since the thieves don't care much about them.

I have a real/serious Denver Sabot at the cottage (not the cheapo things available on Amazon). This ain't fun to put on and off on a frequent base. Especially during winter. I wonder if i put it on for a while, the *[beep]* who spotted my truck will forget/give up on it after a while.

    Any suggestions are welcomed.

    Thanks.

Probably wouldn't hurt to put in a dummy port. Also, he must not have known what he was doing very well as it's pretty well known that most cars don't have alarm sensors on the rear windows so it wouldn't hurt to try and look into addressing that.

He probably gave up the attempt when he saw it has a third pedal.

That's exactly what the cop said. LOL.

I appreciate your replies. But anyone actually knows if a ODB hack can start my truck it is NOT keyless.

That's what I say, and I'm a cop as well. These people stealing vehicles this day and age do not know how to drive standard.

Nearly $100 for a kill switch is insane.

Why not just figure out which wire powers your fuel pump and intermediate that with a kill switch for, I don’t know, $20 maximum . . . ?

I use a Club steering wheel lock. Very visible pointing upwards. It can be defeated, but the bad person will have decide if it is worth the extra time. Also I don’t leave any valuables in my truck.

I live North of the USA border. We can get in serious trouble here if we bring a firearm outside our homes to address the problem.

It's better than nothing, but when you put one of those. As I wrote in the initial post, they just come with proper tools to cut the steering wheels in seconds.

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
I would agree that the stick shift probably scared him off.

For a low tech solution, you could put a hidden switch on the clutch, and a second one on the clutch start cancel button, or as others have said, on the fuel pump.

Car thieves are going high tech these days, so they might not be looking for low tech deterrents.

Or for a hundred bucks, you could do it 1990s style, and get the club, like I do.

been thinking about theft lately too as the mods pile up on the truck. only real thing that seems to work is a kill switch but it adds on time if you need to start the car up fast in an emergency, plus kill switch wont do anything if they are stealing it with a roll on tow truck. anyone have any ideas besides dont park in bad areas?

Ah. Gotcha. What about some hand to hand combat? Are you able to defend your personal property? Just curious

hand to hand combat or other defensives really arent worth it in most states. its a truck vs your only life, or a long time in a lawsuit if things get bad. in this case offensive defense is key.

I had my 83 4x4 stolen back in the day - the gas gauge was broken - they ditched it one street down. - Kill switch on the gas gauge?

Port lock can slow them down.
