    Good day everyone!
Got 05 taco 4x4 and having an issue w rr diff lockers. Driving at freeway, suddenly rr diff and abs lights on without pressing the switch button. And upon checking, the rr diff was actually engaged at 2H. Turning on/off the switch didn’t do anything. Tried actually activating 4H/4L and rr diff, still not disengaging. Any thoughts?

And is there a way that i can manually disengage the r diff lockers?

    Thanks taco people!

Is it actually engaged as in the rear wheels are locked together or is the light just on?

Have you done any modifications, such as the “locker any time mod”?
While I’d say it’s not impossible for the locker to engaged on its own, it highly unlikely it would.
As there is more than one system check in place to prevent that from happening.

When in 2H, is really hard to turn the truck at slow speeds?
Is one wheel “spinning” or “chirping” in turns?

Didn’t do any mods on the locker.

Lights stays on even turning on/off the rr diff lock switch and when turning slowly the inner tire spins.

It certainly sounds like it is engaged.
Why, or how, I have no idea.

You can disengage manually for now. But we really need to know “why” it did it.

Which means we need to know what the 4WD ECU seeing.
@Dm93 has a good test procedure. I will link it below.

I don't have alot of info on the rear locker, what I do know is it uses limit switches and a detection switch just like the 4wd system however the limit switches are 5v instead of 12v and the circuits are only active for a few seconds at key on and during a shift.
Something weird has to be going on because as @TnShooter said it's hard coded in the 4wd ECU that the truck has to be in 4 low before it will allow the locker to engage so it would seem that either someone did some creative wiring at some point or something is going on in the 4wd ECU (water intrusion maybe?).

the limits are same voltage as the rest of the system. There are speed a gear interlocks to prevent engagement while driving normally on a paved road. Never heard of one “randomly engaging.” Best bet is to just manually disengage and leave the motor with the plug to the actuator disconnected.

OP: are you sure your rear axle was locked with the light on? Were you chirping tires around the corner?

The locker limit switch reference voltage is 5v for some reason and isn't active all the time but other than that operation is essentially the same as the ADD.

Maybe a PO did some sort of locker anytime mod and it's causing issues.

I'd be really surprised if the locker actually engaged on its own. More than likely I'll bet the position switch is acting up for some reason and turning the indicator on.

On my 2011 TRD I had the red light flicker on driving down the freeway. I pulled the switch out, worked the plunger up and down a few times with my thumb and never saw the problem again. It's just a simple switch similar to a reverse light switch in a manual trans

guess I never checked it the oem specs, I put a DPDT relay in its place many years ago and bypassed the ECU….good to know!

Yea I found it out when I was doing testing on mine, at first I couldn't figure out why I didn't have anything on either one then I discovered it only powers them at initial powerup and during a shift.
I'll have to look if I still have the scope captures, if I do I'll post them.
