The manual says there will be some noise when using Crawl Control, but they do not specify that it will sound like you are grinding your gears into powder at an almost deafening volume.
A local hiking trailhead near me has a huge dirt parking lot with lots of really deep ruts. Headed out for a hike but also specifically wanted to put the Tacoma in Crawl control as I had never used it before. I settled into some of the deepest ruts, and pushed the CC button. First thought, holy hell I have killed my beautiful truck. I turned it off and then on again, same godawful noise. Turned it off, gently got it back into 2WD, and drove home in a panic.
Thankfully the first YouTube video I found on this put my mind at ease. This sound is normal?!
Note to Toyota: The manual should let you know that it will sound like your transmission is blowing apart when using this feature!

I did the same thing when I first got my truck. Didn’t read the manual, put in 4 low and hit the CC button on a dirt road.

It was such a jarring experience, I don't think I'd ever push that button again!

I have no use for CC... (and the manual gearbox does not have such a thing).
I don't even use the regular cruise.

I've heard the CC in the wild. Oh dear...

The system is so loud and obnoxious that it is embarrassing. I don’t know that I would touch it if I had it...

It gets quite a reaction from observers too... With the racket it makes and shaking. Not a good advertisement for Toyota's 4x4 system.

I thought the CC noise is basically the ABS system being violently used?

Sounded like the brake calipers were on crystal meth when trying mine on a downhill.

That is what the video explanations I watched said. The brakes must pulse at the speed of light, it sounds like a machine gun, with some wild creaking chatter. I expect 4 low and rear locker will get me out of most jams I find myself in though.

Toyota advertised as it works never said anything about how noisy it is . If they had a commercial about crawl control being used in real life they would probably get less sales lol .
