Just got the P0335 on my truck lastnight, haven’t noticed any irregular idling, power loss or anything like that at all. Tried to clear the code, but came back the next morning.

Weather is not cooperating with me, unfortunately I’m going to have to take it to the dealership.

    Truck only has 159,000km/98,000miles.

Praying it’s the sensor or the wire to the sensor. Hopefully it’s not a timing chain issue or the reluctor. :(

Probably going to need an oscilloscope for that one, the truck won't run without a crank signal so odds are it's not the crank sensor but without looking at the cam and crank sensor signals it's difficult to say what may be causing that code to set.

I mean I really doubt it's a timing issue, it could be a reluctor but I would expect other codes along with that one.
But like I said without seeing the signals the PCM is seeing we can guess at it all day.

Now finding someone (be it a dealer or independent) that is gona do that kind of testing instead of just firing a sensor at it is gona be the challenge.

Should I mention to my dealership to use the oscilloscope off the bat?

Been reading it could be a weak battery but mine is only 2 years old if that. Starter is another possibility I read too. Shit…hope it’s an easy fix.

I mean you can, whether or not they will wana hear it is another story...

Possible, does it crank normally or does it sound like it's cranking slow?

So with the remote starter the last two days, it’s been having trouble, the two times I tried to use it. With the key so far, no issues as of yet.

Just started it up with the key, no issues, ran the scanner found no codes but the P0335 is still stored permanently.

Interesting, does it turn over slower with the remote start or does it just take longer to start?

So the code only sets when you use the remote start?

Permanent codes can not be cleared with a scan tool or by disconnecting the battery, they will clear themselves after a number of good drive cycles.

Won’t turn over at all or even attempt to. I would have to press it again and then it would start up.

I used the remote starter this morning and the check engine light was back on again.

Ah there's your problem, P0335 will set if the PCM sees a start signal but does not see engine rotation (Crank signal).
Sounds like you have an issue with your remote start system or the starter is having an issue.

After you said it doesn't crank or anything when you hit your remote start and after that the code was set it all made sense, Toyota will set a crank sensor code when the PCM sees a start request signal but does not see engine rotation.
