Yes- particularly the hood. White is known to be sprayed thin. Finally starting to see some of the edges of my hood show the primmer underneath.

It's not like Toyota is going to repaint your 20 year old truck though.

Edit- I will also add that I had one panel resprayed (by a very reputable shop) in roughly 2004 (on my 01) and the OEM paint around that has held up WAY better than the resprayed panel. I don't know the history of your truck, or if you know the history of your truck, but aftermarket paint jobs don't hold up as long as the baked on OEM stuff.

Plenty of paint chipping on my white 2002. It’s a known problem. The white paint is different than all of the other colors for some reason.

I have on my 2000 Prerunner. It's really not noticeable though from a distance.

    4 run, 2 don't
Well-known problem, even affected newer Toyota models.

I was told that the white paint was a single stage that had the clear coat sort of mixed in with the paint as opposed to all the other colors are two stage with clear coat sprayed on top. That’s why all the other colors get the faded/peeling clear coat while the white doesn’t do that but instead just chips off entirely.
At least that’s sort of how it was explained to me. I got the whole left side of the bed repainted and soon to be due to for the right. Seems to mainly be an issue for the bed I’ve noticed.

For what it's worth, the 3rd gen section has lots of people with issues with white paint also.

I always had been under the impression of the same. Older Toyotas, and probably other makes, had the white and black as a single stage paint.
