The iddle on my truck seemed to fluctuate from 1000-1700 once at operating temp sort of sporadically. It finally gave the IAC check engine code (p0505). This is what I've found after cleaning everything and changing the throttle and IAC gaskets:

Maybe unrelated, but even before cleaning everything up, the rpms seem to be a bit high. I compared it to my friends' 3rd gen 4runner, and at the same speed, he goes at 2900~ rpms. Sorry if this is unrelated, but I'm not very experienced when in comes to mechanics lol4krmp.jpg

    After clean up...:

Welcome to the forum. What exactly are you trying to fix? A high idle issue? Did cleaning the IAC help?

That IAC valve still looks pretty dirty... is that the before pic? I had dirty throttle body and IAC idle issues for about 6 months (it happened after I cleaned it without taking it off). I went ahead and just replaced the whole throttle body with a new OEM. The rubber parts were starting to disintegrate. My truck is at the age where if something is going out (or continues to be problematic), I swap things out with new while im in neighborhood. I dont believe OEM IAC's can bought as a separate part. I also had to drive about 100 miles on the freeway on the new throttle body before the computer reset.

Yes, that picture is before cleaning it. It was surface rust from the worn IAC gasket.

The iddle speed on the cluster seems to be about the same but it does feel different. The truck doesn't drive at 15mph without my foot on thw gas now lol.

I checked the rpms via the torque pro app and they vastly differ from the cluster:Screenshot_20231103-130055.png
That picture is at iddle at operating temp. While my dash at the same time would be at 1100... Same thing at higher speeds; 4000 rpm at 80 mphs when torque pro was at 2600ish.

A couple weeks after I bought this taco, I checked its VIN history. The truck had around 300000 miles on the last maintenance schedule at a dealership... Once I dug into the dash to see the cluster, there were signs of tampering further confirming the actual age of it.

The truck still runs like a champ now so it's all good :)

If it is a faulty or incompatible cluster, I don't knowhow I would go about to fix it.

I wish they still made OEM throttles for the 3.4l, but next thing in mind is maxbore.com to get the throttle sorted out.

If you want to correct the mileage on the odometer I can reprogram that for you. Send me a PM.

The IAC is available separately. It's only the TPS on the 2003.5-2004 trucks which is not available separately.
