Call it what you will…..I call it experience.
40 years of working on an airplane set of gear, isn’t anything too inspiring to do. If you know anything about yours, you know it’s a bad idea. No offense taken you’re welcome to your opinion

A decent technician should be able to look at the gears and make a judgment about whether it would make sense to proceed. If the gears then get set, and the pattern looks good, put the rear end back together. At worst they’ll howl like 75% of the other Tacomas on the road.

But I’m just a shitposter on TW, and I don’t have the gears in from of me, but I would say OP isn’t out of his mind to consider a used set.

I've bought and installed used gears in numerous vehicles. I wouldn't have an issue using used gears (again.) Most were street driven, some harder than others.
Your intended use plays a part as well as your comfort level. I wouldn't expect them to fail, they may whine though.
My vehicles all had healthy engines and exhaust notes, with the exception of the 1990 Toyota pickup.

    1980 Monte Carlo (used 4.11)
    1970 Chevelle (used 3.31)
    1972 Chevelle (used 3.73 & 4.88)
    1986 Monte Carlo (used 3.73)
    1977 Chevy truck (used 3.73)
1978 Bronco (used can't remember ratio)
    1990 Toyota (used 4.10)
