Hey guys so I was hoping y’all could help me out. I have a 2017 DCSB with a Bakflip Mk4 bed cover and I’d like to get a fuel transfer tank for extended range towing my camper as well as for filling up generators and boats at work. I have about 17.75” of clearance and wanted to get something around 20-30 gallons of extra gas in the bed of the truck. So I’m just wondering how I would go about doing it safe and legally.

Also what would y’all recommend I look at? I haven’t found any fuel transfer tanks that can fit and I don’t even really understand the DOT approval thing. My main goal is to extend my range so I can drive from Houston to Mississippi without stopping a bunch of gas stations that are tight and annoying to pull the travel trailer through. Thanks in advance for the advice.

P.s. for those oh you asking for an update on my travel trailer adventures on my last post, I plan on posting about that when I get some upgrades done. Plus having a little bit more experience pulling the trailer to let y’all know how it’s going. So far so good but also learning a lot of things.

If you have problems maybe rethink this adventure . I have found no problems at most stations pulling trailers of different lengths . Many are set up to fuel Gas powered RV`s which can be even more fun to get around.

Transfer tanks can be found or built in many sizes finding what you need to should not be a major issue.

Gasoline Transfer you need a special pump approved for gasoline due to the explosive fumes completely enclosed so no chance of sparks can be exposed to the fumes.

You would also need to vent fumes from under your cover it would only take one arc in any of the tail light harness to make things real interesting.

Also remember to check into refueling from the tank and grounding to prevent surprises and fire company visits.

    Good luck .

yeah I decided it was a shit idea because it’s also super expensive. I just went with some 5 gallon gas cans so I can avoid that hassle and still have extra fuel while still being able to move it around and be flexible for $90 for the whole set up. I’m just gonna deal with cramped gas stations and call it a day.

I’m making my first long drive (600 miles) with it tomorrow so we’ll see how it goes. Kinda forgot about this thread lmao
