FOX Weather Channel was just showing a "field report" from a person in West Virginia. She was plowing through water up to the top of tires on Camry and Odessey style vehicles. <sigh>

And the video was pivoting left/right/center while she was talking. <heavy sigh>

What you need is a lift up truck. Then you can drive in 3 feet water, over traffic and well.. Pretty much drive without thinking ! :D

I’ve had water over my hood multiple times and been in deep water dozens of times. In the ozarks, CO, AL and GA.

I have a snorkel and diff breathers. Never had an issue in water.

Did you maintain speed while in the water or was it slow speed or stopped for a second?

OP, nice job ignoring all the BS and hate, props to you on that. With alternators in the 3rd gen, 4ruuners and the GX they are hit or miss with water crossings. Seen them take abuse for ever and seen them fail on a puddle in a vehicle with less than 5,000 miles. Yours could have been a perfect storm of water in the alt while it stayed submerged for a while.

We had a brand new 4runner, like 2000 miles hydro lock on a maybe 1 foot deep puddle after multiple other vehicles went though with no issues and more had to come through after. Imagine that stress. He was moving slowly too, regular trail pace not gunning it. You could wash your hands in the air box. It happens. I try to avoid deep water as much as possible, breathers are stretched and my air intake is sealed to the snorkel. I still get a little worried every time. Hope it all works out for you easily, I know it sucks when you lose the confidence in your vehicle. It will come back with time, but be prepared the thing with water issues is they can show up later on down the line.
