So I heard a rattling after a car wash and got down and took a look. This piece of I'm guessing heat shielding was totally loose over the driver side pipe, so I removed it. Is this necessary to have on or can I make do without it?

Chuck it in the fuck it bucket. Mine came loose after a while and Toyota just removed it.

I've put them back up with the nut and a larger washer to cover the hole. Easy enough..

Check/fit all the others as above as they are probably doing the same thing. They are there to keep your floor cooler from exhaust.

I had the same issue and secured mine via steel zip ties.

They wouldn't have put it there if they didn't feel it was beneficial. If you can remove the nuts from the studs without accidentally removing the stud, just put a washer on it and put the nut back and it'll hold just fine.

If not, JB Weld works too.

At least one of my shields did the same. One of the studs was nonexistent because of rust, so I had to pull up the carpet and drill a new hole thru the floor to replace it. But I doubt it took even two hours to do the entire job. And I know that I had to also make one giant "washer" out of a piece of stainless sheet as one hole in the shield was several inches in diameter and couldn't be bridged by even a massive fender washer. Still, the entire job took two hours max and cost me nothing but time as I had everything.

Mine both fell off too in the spring. I was planning on putting them back on with some larger fender washers since the holes got enlarged but I still haven't gotten around to it lol

I would have been fine either way but it was going to the Toyota dealer for other stuff and I figured while I'm there they have the thing up on the lift..said I noticed one bolt fell out and they said "oh not even worth it we'll just pull and toss it"

If they were necessary they would have made them with something more substantial.

I’m still a fan of metal zip ties, I’ve used them on numerous vehicle heat shields and they work. They come in handy when the nuts rust out.

I decided to just toss it, it's impossible for me to fix it myself due to being disabled. By most of the comments it's not even worth having it fixed, especially when Toyota says just pitch it.
