Progressive website was down last night -- of course.. I finally confirmed that my deductible for uninsured motorist property damage hit and run is $300.

Suppose I prepare a hit and run claim and, after agreeing to extend my policy at the inane 42% increase ($924 for 6 months), I then file the hit and run claim.

This seems about right -- imagine I take a $300 hit on the deductible to have the remaining $1000 damage fixed. Even if they hiked my insurance by 100% again next year, it'd still pay for itself.

Immediately after confirming with Progressive that 142% of last year's amount is their best offer, I will renew the policy and simultaneously file a police report, and a hit and run claim with Progressive.

I anticipate switching insurance companies again in 6 months..

My truck was hit on the rear bumper at work by a 20 year old intern. He owned up to it and I got an email stating my truck was hit in the parking lot. Long story short, I got some estimates and it was roughly $900-1200 to repair the rear bumper cap paint matched and replace the minor damage under the cap. As the kid was honest and not making a ton of money being an intern, I told him not to worry about the repair. I came to the conclusion I’d replace the bumper with an aftermarket solution eventually and would pay the good karma forward.
Being a hit and run is totally different…what I wanted to bring up was, at first it bothered me every time I walked by the truck….now I don’t notice it. If it were my truck, I’d try to buff out what I could and get touch up paint from Toyota to match and live with it so there was zero chance my rates would go up…or pay out of pocket to repair it.

Not that it will make you feel any better, but I have American family, and they're doing the same thing. I haven't figured out all the percentages, but I've never made a claim in over 10 years, and they've now done a total of $360/6-mo in rate hikes on me.

It's on my immediate to-do list to get in touch with a broker and get them hunting for something to finalize by the end of the year.

I set mine up through a local agent. I spend enough money, so I try to avoid sams club and Costco!

It's crazy out here man. I'm mid 30's now and thought I was finally done getting profiled as a reckless male.. I spent hours getting quotes last year, and best I got was better coverage for a slightly lower premium. I know Tacomas hold their value (part of why I got one in 2020 amid imminent inflation), but it's like every 6 months they use the same logic to justify 20%+ increases, meanwhile the Fed is smoking crack and jacking rates while they tell me YoY inflation is sub 4% like I'm a vegetable..

The insurance companies are pissing me off, and I've gotten sooo many quotes and don't understand what the issue is with a clean driving record.

I'm in Oregon BTW, I know it varies a lot by state. When I got the truck (in my 20's), insurance was under $500/month (quote for 12/1/23 coverage is $924, and they don't even know I got hit and ran).
