This site is on the side of a mountain, I don't think there's a river near this site.

You would think that a 4wd would be required for this route. I was told if it's rainy or snowy to skip alot of the stops.

The Western red cedar is up, all except for the party rail. I hope that we get another decent weekend, I want to get some sealer on it to keep those beautiful colors showing through.

Morning MD! Planning a trip to do parts of the KAT in Jan. Has anyone run it in January before? Also...do I need more skids for that?

Im going to guess that by KAT, you mean the Kentucky Adventure Tour? If so…Ozark Overland Adventures just did a video on it:

    https://youtu.be/ZDbkCbOaWUA?si=6Kk9baBay8yTHs-F

I think they may have posted one or two others as well if you feel like scrolling through their channel. Maybe the stuff in the vid will give you a good idea of what you need/don’t need.

I kept trying to find an estimate on how long the 1,000 mile trail would take to do in one go, but I couldn't find that info anywhere

Hoping so! Going to be me and my buddy's Jeep. His Jeep way outclasses my Tacoma but it will be fun.

Yes sorry you are correct. I have watched quite a few of their videos. Seems like it depends. I just didn't know if anyone had experience in here on that trail. This will be my maiden journey for my truck.

So my understanding is most people do it in 3 day trips. I think it's about a week or so straight through. Depends too on the goals and how fast you are trying to get through it.

Eagles Overland - i think - does most of Ozark Overland Trail in his 2wd tundra. https://www.youtube.com/@EaglesOverlanding/videos

Do you 'need' 4wd? No. Have a winch and a couple buddies and you'd probably get through most of it.

Are you going to camp on-trail? Might be fun. If you're staying out on the trial I'm happy to loan my diesel heater. KAT is on one of my many lists, but there's hope I'll have just bought a home and need to stay around for a bit.

    That looks terrific. Very well-done.

Cool - then we'd sorta-half-know at least one other person there! :)

Commute is an hour for me - 40-something miles, but all country roads. Jenn's commute to arlington goes about 10 minutes longer - though she drives to work just one day per week.

Yes we will be staying out on the trail. Unfortunately I am coming from KY so while I would love to borrow that diesel heater it would be wicked out of the way. Thank you for the offer!

I am sure we will be doing the KAT again. This trip is going to be both of our firsts on the KAT. It's just three good friends and business owners that are getting away. They are coming down from Michigan so they have a bit longer of a drive than I do.

Offer on the house submitted. Now we wait and prepare to negotiate. I didn't mean that to rhyme. At least when I typed it, at the time. Am excited because the property is sublime. Oops. Did it again. Here's hoping we end up in Penn. Dammit.

Do you have a heater? 10/10 recommend. Here's the heater i have (inexpensive) and a video showing he mods I did to make it better.

    https://www.amazon.com/HCALORY-Blue...mzn1.fos.18630bbb-fcbb-42f8-9767-857e17e03685

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNa92GMUll0

I DID NOT replace the actual heater unit as he did. But the fuel tank and heater hose set-up work very well.
