1st hunt for me this year. sat 6 hrs. only saw 2 gangs of turkeys at daybreak.no white oak mass or water up high. will hunt lower on the mountain Wed. then go back high when they get rutting out there which is usually last 2 weeks November.hour away here in the Shenadoah Valley they are chasing hard.

muzzleloader was back on sept 30. we pretty much found all the doe's on the west side of the state. I come home and the blacktails are laughing at me.

I typically bowhunt on a friends property in GA every year, but I occasionally hunt the management areas around Polk County and Kissimmee River. You? @Hunterdc1

Sorry for the bad pics, I took screen shots of a video my wife sent me from the house. This buck walked through our yard and bedded down beside my shop.

 

Same here. Looks like you have a propensity for eye guards in your neighborhood deer! Wife took some pictures of a masher chasing does last night too, but we are making tall forks or 3x3 without the brow tines in town. I'm finding that my whitetail experience is not necessarily a 1:1 match hunting these west side blacktails. Driving around glassing clearcuts isn't really my bag. Ever try the high buck in the Colonel Bob Wilderness?

 

Had to do a little fishing this morning. Saddled up a tree near a river bottom and had two bucks chase a doe right under me. Shot the bigger buck and he made it to the river. Had to cut a 25’ sapling and lashed a forked limb to it with my gun rope for a hook. Fished him out of a tree down in the river. Then the work started getting him out of that hole. He is what he is and glad to get him. Back to work tomorrow.
