When at a dead stop and I accelerate moderately or somewhat aggressively, there is this rattling noise that sounds like it comes from the rear of the truck. It's hard to pin point the exact area, but fairly confident it's underneath and more towards the bed/rear tires vicinity.

If I accelerate very carefully/slowly from a stop, there is no noise.
If I am in 4wd, no issue. Only in 2wd.

The rattling will last a second or two until I reach a higher speed. Once at higher speeds it can not be heard at all. Only heard when accelerating from a dead stop.

Thoughts/ideas on what it might be? I've searched the threads and most of the searches seemed to all be talking about the front end...

Sound like it’s coming from the exhaust? Could be muffler or cats having their insides rattling around

It has been a while...I'll give that a shot and see.

Fairly confident it's not exhaust related. Muffler and pipe seems to be snug in place. I did have a reroute and thought it was rattling in it's new position, but doesn't seem to be that either.

Yah I’m wondering less about it being loose and more the insides of muffler or cat. The insides can break apart and rattle. Just a thought

External look at the drivers side cat shield (about under drivers seat area) 2 bolts/nuts and a round clamp and then all the exhaust aluminum looking heat shields above exhaust held on to the floor by studs with a washer and nut as they fall off or shield corrodes and is loose. Lots of posts on those and most Tacomas have those issues at some point.

So I greased 3 of the 5 zerks on the driveshaft and did notice an improvement during my acceleration from a stop.
While under there I did check out the exhaust from cat to muffler and did not see/hear anything wrong. And gave the driveshaft a visual look over as well.

When looking at the drive shaft, I did notice it does have some play in it within the center carrier bearing. Most videos I've seen are extreme cases and the drive shaft moves a ton. Mine doesn't move as much as the videos, but I'm not sure how much it's supposed to move within the carrier. It's fairly easy to move around just by one hand and makes me think that I may need to get that sucker replaced...
