That's the day I bought it. Almost didn't happen, but we made it work. 2022 with a little under 30k miles. Not hateful.

Because I leave nothing stock, I've already started. So far, a set of all-weather floor mats, OEM cargo cover, Taco Clout mirrors, and a LabOps device mount thing.

Things I'm mystified by: No auto headlights?? That was a surprise. I did do the crappy workaround and replaced the plug with a real sensor. I'm not big on leaving the LED headlights on all the time, but it's there if I change my mind. The other surprise was the lack of parking sensors. I really don't care that it doesn't have them, but with all the other nannies I thought it would be there.

Starting out with some convenience items first and then I'll dive into the trail prep stuff.

Thanks! I'm really liking it so far. Much more than the 3rd gen Tacoma I used to have.

What specifically are you liking more? A lot of people on here go Taco --> T4R or T4R --> Taco, could be helpful for some in doing their research if you share your thoughts

I don't have a lot of miles under my belt on the 4runner, but the ride and drive are so much better than the Tacoma was. One of the common complaints with the Tacoma are the engine and transmission software. One is tuned for mileage and the other is tuned for power/torque way too far in the band for a truck. I had one of the garage-tunes on my Tacoma and it was still lacking in comparison to the 4runner.

The other complaints I had about the Tacoma are resolved in later model years (mine was a 2017), so it's not worth mentioning them.

Was busy this weekend. Installed TacoClout mirrors, but of course I dropped one. And it broke. Let's see how that works out.

PRP center console cover. This thing is nice. I was going to get their seat covers to match, but I couldn't do the price. Maybe later.

CoverKing seat covers. I've had them before and they held up well and fit decently. Front set shipped out separately. Should be here tomorrow.

RCI skid plates. Got the three piece set. I had them on the Tacoma and liked them. These were somewhat of a pain. I was missing hardware and it seemed like all the holes in the passenger side weren't quite lining up. I made it work. They're on. Going to test on them next weekend.

    Busy weekend.

Did the TRD Pro grille. I like it and all, but wasn't in a hurry to get it. But then I started reading about C4 Fab's TSS relocation bracket and it almost seemed like it was only tested on the Pro Grille. I also looked at the OR, saw the huge Toyota and thought it might be true. I'd rather have it on there then find out mid bumper install.

Finally did the rest of the LED light conversion. Was able to snag the MESO dome and map lights. Had one on the Tacoma and loved it. Swapped the puddle light bulbs out for LEDs too. Didn't even know the truck had them until the other night.

Also did the front turn signal and marker lights. I hope to never do either one again.

For those lights in the doors, I found these cool little projector ones on Amazon. Super silly, but they make me smile.

Holy crap, finally got the front seat covers on.

Apparently I didn't take a picture of them, but I installed a set of Big Country 4x4 drawers. I've had ARB and Front Runner in past vehicles and was less than enthused about them. These were a little more expensive, but worth it.

Also did the first wheeling with it a couple of weeks ago. I was impressed with it. It's not a super hard trail, but there are small rock climbs. It did good.

I'm starting to remember why I don't do build threads! I'm so bad at updating them.

I don't have any pictures to post. Just words. I keep meaning to take some pictures, thought I was going to this weekend and my plans changed and it didn't happen.

Anyway, I bought a set of RCI sliders. So far, I dig them. I've even used them to jack the truck up a few times. Only thing that irritated me was that I paid for powdercoat (a mistake I'll regret later) and the sliders were shipped in a plastic bag and a cardboard box. Nothing else. There was some paint chipping, but nothing major. I couldn't believe it when I opened the box.

I also got a set of braided brake lines. My biggest complaint about this truck is the brake pedal feedback. I don't know if it's because there's an actual issue or that I'm more used to the feel on my other car that I drive more often. The Runner was weird. I'd lightly press on the pedal, thinking I was doing something, but then realizing I'm not doing anything and basically have to press much harder on the pedal to brake. I did a little searching and some folks said that the lines would help. It didn't really matter because it was something I planned on doing anyway. So I did. Fronts were a 10–15-minute job. Getting to the back, I realized it should really be four pieces for the rear. I had gotten the set from SDHQ and for the rear they just send the two over the axle. Understandable. Dropped the spare and got those on. While I was under there, I added a better differential vent.

After seeing that another pair of lines would be needed for the rear, I just ordered the Stoptech versions from Amazon and threw them on a few days later. Did it help my issues? Yeah, for the most part. The weird feel is still there, just not as abrupt. If that makes sense. Now I'm wondering if it doesn't have something to with pad compound. I don't know if the pads have ever been replaced, but there's a slim possibility with the mileage on the truck. Maybe I'll throw some different pads on it down the road.

I've wheeled twice in this rig and have come away pretty impressed. It does things in its stock form that I didn't think it was capable of. I was ready to start looking at lifts, but think I'll do wheels and tires first. That seems to be where the truck falls short on the trails. I was all set on a cheap of mud tires but have been considering a hybrid tire. I had a set of Ridge Grapplers on my Tacoma, but they didn't go off-road. I had another set of wheels and tires for that. I definitely liked them in on-road situations, especially in inclement weather. Wheels won't be anything special. A set of black steelies. I've learned not to get anything pretty for the trails.

    Maybe some fancy pictures soon.

Yeah. For the TRD Off-Road models. I believe they used them on the Trail trim level as well.

Not near the picture to upload, but new wheels and tires showed up this past weekend. Nothing special, steelies with the circular holes. The tires are some cheap brand I'd never heard of. The ubiquitous 285/70/17 size. They're supposedly a hybrid tire, but I had full on 35' mud tires on a Jeep that didn't make this much noise. To make the adventure even better, they have a bad wobble at 60mph that may be temperature related. I'm going to try and get them road force balanced this weekend.

I have OME BP-51s, Superpro upper control arms and sway bar end links sitting in the garage. I'm going to attempt installation this weekend, but it's not looking promising.

Installed the 12v solutions remote start kit last weekend, too. This is my third kit from them. Their customer service is top-notch and I'm always confident I won't have issues with their product when I get it. Installation was pretty easy. I have telematics, so the passenger side dash required some disassembly, but it wasn't hard, and their videos walk you through it. I also got the cellular phone module. I can start the Runner, lock/unlock the doors and there's a simple GPS located built in. So baller! :spending:

Ordered some retro-looking shift knobs off Etsy. I'll get them sometime this week. I really dig them.

Also ordered a pair of adapters for the tailgate lights that allow you to use KC Cyclones in place of the OEM lights. We'll see how that works out.

I'll post pics once I remember to take them!

Probably pause here for a bit on the big mods. I just wanted to get the thing to a point where I could take it on some adventures and not worry too much.
