Nope the 4cyl is pretty weak and sluggish. Adding a turbo or supercharger is just a waste of money u are not going to see any significant gains . You have 2 options live with it or sell it and get a v6 .

Yeah that 4cyl is weak, and probably one of the most trouble free engines Toyota has available. Enjoy it for what it is or sell and get a 6cyl. You can probably get a deal on an end of year 2023.

Our KDMax ECU tuning service helps wake the 4 cylinder up a bit. It won't make a race truck out of it, but it will certainly make it more enjoyable to drive. The tune improves the throttle response and acceleration, provides additional low/mid-range power, smooths out the shifting, and just gets the truck running and driving better overall. Our team has tuners throughout the US. You can reach out to me if you need help finding one, or we have a locator map here:

Your best adjustment will be to your expectations, it’s a 4cyl with an auto powering a less than light vehicle, it’s gonna be somewhat of a dog, smile and enjoy the ride.

Tune is your best option. Had v6 tacoma it was sluggish, can't imagine how 4 banger is. But tune sure helped v6.

That engine will run into the year 2222 if you want it to - but it's carrying a lot of weight in that truck.

Unfortunately, most feel sluggish. Not winning any pulls with these trucks.

As mentioned, you’re in an unpowered, heavy, un aerodynamic truck. But, the good news is; the lil 4-pot is a long term workhorse.
Trade it in, or accept it for what it is.

Use the smallest, lightest tires you can find, or regear to 488’s. Huge difference in pick-up from a stop with the lower 1st and 2nd gear.

I want to know what are people’s expectations for a light duty pick up truck with a four-cylinder engine. By the way, mine has a four-wheel-drive and a topper which adds some, but not a lot of weight.

Even when hauling demolition debris from house projects I don’t have trouble keeping up with fast and aggressive California traffic.

I also own some fast cars and for whatever reason I’m not let down when I get in my 4 cyl Tacoma because I change my expectations.

    it's one of those scenarios- "I do,,,,,but I don't"
I am afraid they actually want sports car tech and acceleration, out of a generation of truck that is going on 8 years old,,, and never was brought to market in that light anyways.

So then the manufacturer listens and gives us a ridiculously powerful turbocharged pick up truck that accelerates very fast in a straight line, which is of very little utility for somebody who just uses it as a work truck around town.
