4,218 days are not enough days. Today, about an hour and a half ago, my sweet sweet Aoife crossed into the next life. I am in shock. I am dealing with the normal - probably normal - grief and denial and all those things. But nothing changes the fact my sweet babe has left to her rest. Aoife was born in Michigan - she left Michigan for Germany where we lived for nearly five years. Aoife followed me to Oklahoma for a couple years before concluding her days here in Maryland.

And I thank God for Aoife's existence. She was a blessing and her steadfast love and enthusiasm will never be forgotten.

Sorry man. It will get better, but there will always be those triggers where you remember.

We got to enjoy the company of Ricki for ~6,000 days, which is a good long life. And even that doesn't seem enough. She passed about 6 months into the pandemic. Just tonight I was reminded of her again. I had a small basket where I would throw my work shirts before taking them to get laundered. She was blind, but she could always find that basket and we'd always find her curled up in it on my shirts. I haven't needed the shirts since we shifted to working from home, and that basket has been sitting there with the same shirts in it for 2 years with her indentation intact. Tonight I finally decided to empty it. The memories that returned were good ones.

I'm sure Ricki was waiting on the other side of that Rainbow Bridge to meet Aoife.
